ecological seeds
Being one of the pioneering companies
and with one of the most extensive
catalogues of varieties for ecological
cultures, Rijk Zwaan continues extending
its range, both with untreated and
ecological seeds. For the upcoming
spring season the Sydney RZ, Estepa
RZ, Boreal RZ, Traviatta RZ cucumbers
and the red peper from California
stand out. According to a study con-

ducted by the Universidad de Almería,
Razymo RZ, tomato on the vine, is a
variety that in spring has an important
production with a very good quality of
fruit. They respond to the important
growth of the demand in the different
types from ecological vegetable, due
to a greater preoccupation of health on
the part of the consumers. “But also
it is necessary to look for a resistance
to diseases such as powdery mildew,
botrytis cinerea, etc. Our selectors are

very aware to the aptitudes that can
display any variety to later adapt them
to the ecological culture”, explains
David Herzog, ecological responsible
of Rijk Zwaan Ibérica. At the same
time in-charge of the stock of grafting,
whose use can avoid problems of
ground diseases and extend the cycle
of the ecological farming.
El Huerto de Claudio, all
flavour
Conscious of the demand of products
with more flavour, Semillas Fitó initiated
three years ago the development
of a range of varieties that were special
and differentiated by their superior
flavour. Commercialized within
a homogeneous format and with the
registered trade name “El Huerto de
Claudio”, they intend to have a provision
guarantee over the 12 months
thanks to a close collaboration of exclusive
producers and distributors in
all the links of the provision chain. Today
5 specialities of tomato and one of
courgette are in the market: “Delicia”
a variety of the cherry plum tomato,
“Saborissimo”, tomato pintón, “Tomacó”,
for spreading, “Sardo” with an
intense taste, “Lynx”, juicy and “Pepo”

it has the melon of Charente which is
long-lasting, “Le Melon de Claude”
y “Cartago”, very tasty. “El Huerto de
Claudio” strategic bet and the granting
of exclusivity respond to the need

added value and differentiation, to
