Candidates transfer meaning <strong>of</strong> an<br />

English text <strong>of</strong> 300-400 words into<br />

French. (Involves a guided summary<br />

<strong>of</strong> specified parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> text to which<br />

candidates add own opinion.)<br />

6. Culture and Society: ei<strong>the</strong>r as a<br />

externally marked written examination<br />

(120 mins) or as coursework – 15%<br />

Ei<strong>the</strong>r:<br />

Written paper option: 60 marks<br />

Three sections. Candidates answer<br />

two questions, which may come from<br />

ei<strong>the</strong>r one or two sections. (300-500<br />

words in French)<br />

Set Literary Texts: two questions on<br />

each <strong>of</strong> eight set texts, one a<br />

commentary, <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r an essay.<br />

Candidates may not choose both<br />

questions on one text. No texts to be<br />

brought to <strong>the</strong> examination room.<br />

Literary Topics: one question on<br />

each <strong>of</strong> six set literary topics (e.g.<br />

Love in Literature). Candidates are<br />

free to choose <strong>the</strong>ir own texts.<br />

Non-Literary Topics<br />

Two questions on each <strong>of</strong> eight set<br />

non-literary topics (e.g. La jeunesse<br />

en France) OCR indicates in advance<br />

which two <strong>of</strong> a list <strong>of</strong> sub-topics within<br />

a broad topic area will be tested (e.g.<br />

conflit des générations; les loisirs)<br />

Coursework option: 60 marks<br />

(teacher marked and standardised by<br />

Centre, external postal moderation)<br />

Candidates submit one long piece<br />

(1200-1400 words) or two short<br />

pieces (600-700 words) in French on<br />

topics or texts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir choice related<br />

to France.
