Assessment<br />
G.I. (Field work)<br />
G.I. to be completed and written up by April <strong>of</strong> 6 th Yr. Booklets are sent to <strong>the</strong> school and are<br />
given to <strong>the</strong> student to be written up, usually in <strong>the</strong> school, but can be done in <strong>the</strong>ir own time<br />
outside school. The teacher and student must sign that <strong>the</strong> work has been done by <strong>the</strong><br />
student. The finished work is kept in <strong>the</strong> school and placed in a double sided plastic folder,<br />
toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> students written exam paper in June. Both are marked by <strong>the</strong> same<br />
Examiner.<br />
There is a list <strong>of</strong> approx 5 topics to choose from. This is decided by <strong>the</strong> teacher (and<br />
sometimes <strong>the</strong> pupils) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> class. The total mark is 100m.<br />
The booklet is divided up as follows:<br />
Introduction/ Aims; 5m (4 pts at 1m ea plus an O.C <strong>of</strong> 1m).<br />
Planning: 5m (4 pts at 1m ea plus an O.C. <strong>of</strong> 1m).<br />
Ga<strong>the</strong>ring <strong>of</strong> data; 40m. Here 2 different methods <strong>of</strong> ga<strong>the</strong>ring are required e.g. measuring,<br />
observing, recording etc. Each method can merit 9 SRPs (pts) at 2m ea. The o<strong>the</strong>r 4m is an<br />
overall O.C. mark.<br />
Results, Conclusions and <strong>Evaluation</strong>s; 30m. The answer requires 4 results, 4 conclusions and<br />
4 evaluations at 2m ea. Plus an overall impression mark, O.C. 6m.<br />
Organisation and Presentation <strong>of</strong> results; 20m. Two different charts are required, each worth<br />
8m plus an O.C <strong>of</strong> 4m. Depending on <strong>the</strong> type <strong>of</strong> charts drawn, an e.g. <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> marking would<br />
be ; Title 2m, Axis 2m, 2 correct bars 2m plus 2m.<br />
Written Paper<br />
Time allowance 2 hrs and 50 min.<br />
Total mark possible; 400m. (The written paper plus G.I is worth 500m).<br />
There are 2 parts to <strong>the</strong> exam.<br />
Part 1.Short answer Qs<br />
The student must attempt 10 out <strong>of</strong> 12 short answer Qs at 8m ea. Most are divided into 2 or 4<br />
parts. Topics are from <strong>the</strong> Core content <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> course. They are answered IN <strong>the</strong> booklet.<br />
Examples <strong>of</strong> Qs e.g.<br />
a diagram with <strong>the</strong> 4 items shown to be named,<br />
4 groups <strong>of</strong> answers, with <strong>the</strong> correct on in each line to be circled,<br />
matching 2 columns with 4 items in each column,<br />
Land use and location on an aerial photograph, etc.<br />
Total mark; 80m.<br />
