Generating Local Employment<br />
In March 2012 Council resolved to establish an Economic<br />
Development Entity with the following Vision and Objectives.<br />
The Vision<br />

‘To identify, pursue and support strategies that align to Sustainable<br />
Blue Mountains 2025 that creates a vibrant City through the promotion<br />
of sustainable economic activities, stimulating investment<br />
and the diversification, growth and strengthening of the local employment<br />
base.’<br />
Objectives<br />
To encourage and foster the interest and financial support of<br />
governments, trusts, grant making bodies, corporations, commerce,<br />
industry, benefactors and friends of the City for the<br />
benefit and promotion of business in the City;<br />
Encourage economic diversification within the City;<br />
Encourage employment generation within the City;<br />
Contribute to planning policy within the City;<br />
Contribute to development of a sustainable economy for the<br />
City;<br />
Conduct marketing and business development to promote the<br />
City as a business destination;<br />
Facilitate the growth of existing businesses within the City;<br />
Attract investment to the City consistent with the local environment;<br />
Stimulate economic activity within the City;<br />
In 2010 the Council was successful in winning a $3.5 million<br />
grant from the Federal Government to develop Lawson Industrial<br />
Estate into a clean technology business park, creating<br />
350 new jobs for the region.<br />
