ART198/298 Independent Study in Art<br />

1-3 credits (hrs to be arranged)<br />

Prerequisite: Instructor consent.<br />

ART199C ART Drawing Level I<br />

1 credit (1 lec hr/wk)<br />

A teaching approach using right-brain techniques, which<br />

allows anyone with sight to fully use their drawing skills.<br />

The student rediscovers a skill they have neglected and<br />

draws shapes well. Understanding of brain functions and<br />

processes enhances self-awareness.<br />

ART199D ART Drawing Level II<br />

1 credit (1 lec hr/wk)<br />

A learning approach that develops the drawing skills<br />

that the student rediscovers in level I. Students produce<br />

accurate shapes upon completion of the first level. Level<br />

II teaches how to make observed shapes dimensional<br />

through the use of values and edges. Understanding is<br />

arrived at through the study of foundation black and<br />

white shapes.<br />

ART204/205/206 History of Western Art:<br />

Introduction to Art History<br />

3 credits/term (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

The History of Western Art is a survey of the traditions,<br />

movements, and developments in art and architecture of<br />

the western world.<br />

ART204 - Introduces the study of art history and the<br />

elements of art, then surveys the history of Western Art<br />

from prehistory through Early Christian Art.<br />

ART205 - Will emphasize a survey of the history of art<br />

from the Early Middle Ages through the Baroque.<br />

ART206 - Will survey Western Art from Neoclassicism to<br />

the present.<br />

ART225 Computer Art I<br />

3 credits (6 lec-lab hrs/wk)<br />

This course concentrates on producing art with computer<br />

software tools. Principles and concepts of design are<br />

applied to projects. Basics of design elements, drawing,<br />

composition, and color are used in presentations that use<br />

the computer as the creative medium. Includes planning,<br />

design sketches, functional and aesthetic tests. Develops<br />

a documented portfolio of work that will showcase the<br />

artist/designer.<br />

ART226 Computer Art II<br />

3 credits (6 lec-lab hrs/wk)<br />

Applies principles and concepts of design to selected<br />

projects. Includes planning, design sketches, functional<br />

and aesthetic critiques. A continuation of a variety of<br />

computer tools within a higher-level art language to<br />

produce two and three-dimensional images. Picture<br />

manipulation and animation basics are explored.<br />

Prerequisite: ART225.<br />

Concurrent: CIS0593.<br />

ART244 Bronze Casting II<br />

3 credits (6 led/lab hrs/wk)<br />

Under the direction of the instructor, the members of the<br />

class will work together as a team on the creation of a<br />

large-scale bronze sculpture. All aspects of the bronze<br />

casting process will be covered. The student will gain<br />

experience in mold making, wax pattern production,<br />

investment/ceramic shell processes, bronze casting,<br />

welding and metal chasing, bronze patina, and final<br />

installation of the finished sculpture.<br />

ART250 Beginning Ceramics I<br />

3 credits/term (2 lec, 4 lab hrs/wk)<br />

Introduces materials, methods, and techniques of pottery<br />

design and construction. Includes hand building methods<br />

and beginning wheel work. Exercises encourage the<br />

development of skills with ceramic materials, stoneware,<br />

and raku firing techniques.<br />

ART251 Beginning Ceramics II<br />

3 credits (2 lec, 4 lab hrs/wk)<br />

Introduces materials, methods and techniques of pottery<br />

design and construction. Includes wheel throwing and<br />

glaze application. Exercises encourage creativity and<br />

development of skills with ceramic materials. Includes<br />

stoneware and raku firing techniques.<br />

ART252 Beginning Ceramics III<br />

3 credits (2 lec, 4 lab hrs/wk)<br />

Introduces materials, methods and techniques of pottery<br />

design and construction. Includes continuation of wheel<br />

projects, decorating techniques, stoneware and raku<br />

firing process, skill development, and personal style.<br />

ART253 Intermediate Ceramics<br />

3 credits (2 lec, 4 lab hrs/wk)<br />

Demonstrates construction techniques and methods<br />

used to design, shape, and form pottery. Includes wheel<br />

throwing, pottery decoration, glaze calculation, and firing.<br />

Students develop greater creativity, skill building, and use<br />

of ceramic equipment.<br />

Prerequisites: ART250, ART251, and ART252 or<br />

portfolio examples.<br />

ART254 Intermediate Ceramics<br />

3 credits (2 lec, 4 lab hrs/wk)<br />

Demonstrates construction techniques and methods<br />

used to design, shape, and form pottery appropriate to<br />

this intermediate level. Includes wheel throwing, pottery<br />

decoration, glaze calculation, and firing. Students provide<br />

studio demonstrations developed to encourage creativity,<br />

skill building, and use of ceramic equipment.<br />
