Continues the review and expansion of language,<br />
grammar, conversation, composition, and culture.<br />
Emphasizes speaking, listening comprehension, reading<br />
comprehension, and writing. Must be taken<br />
in sequence.<br />
Prerequisite: GER103 or two years of high school<br />
German.<br />
SPAN0521 Beginning Conversational Spanish<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
The student develops conversational Spanish vocabulary<br />
including necessary grammar for those with knowledge<br />
in Spanish.<br />
SPAN0522/0523 Intermediate/Advanced<br />
Conversational Spanish<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
The student develops conversational Spanish vocabulary<br />
and necessary grammar for those with knowledge in<br />
Spanish. Emphasis is on fluency and pronunciation.<br />
SPAN101/102/103 First Year Spanish<br />

Introduces the written and spoken language of<br />
Spanish-speaking people. Includes pronunciation,<br />
grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. Emphasizes<br />

FW251 Principles of Wildlife Conservation<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course will give the student first-hand<br />
knowledge and laboratory experience related to some<br />
of <strong>Oregon</strong>’s fish, wildlife, and forest resources with an<br />
emphasis on the relationships between water quality,<br />
fish, and forest practices. The latest studies will be<br />
presented and analyzed in relation to physical and<br />
economic feasibility.<br />
GENERAL SCIENCE<br />
A sequence in General Science must include GS104 and<br />
GS105 plus either GS106, GS107, or GS108.<br />
GS104 Physical Science<br />
4 credits (3 lec, 3 lab hrs/wk)<br />
This course provides an overview of the essential ideas<br />
in physics with an emphasis on the laws of motion, work,<br />
and energy, heat and temperature. The topics are<br />
presented through an activity-based learning pedagogy.<br />
Prerequisites: MTH70 and WR90 with a “C” or better.<br />
GS105 Physical Science<br />
4 credits (3 lec, 3 lab hrs/wk)<br />
This course is an introduction to the elementary<br />
facts and ideas of chemistry and also a brief survey of<br />
the broader world of chemistry and its contributions to<br />
modern technology. Several environmental issues will<br />
be developed as a framework for learning chemistry.<br />
The course will cover atomic structure, properties<br />
of the elements, chemical reactions, molecular<br />
structure, chemical bonding, atmospheric chemistry,<br />
solution chemistry, and selected topics in organic<br />
and biochemistry.<br />
Prerequisites: MTH70 or MTH80 and WR90 with a “C”<br />
or better.<br />
GS106 Introduction to Earth Science<br />
4 credits (3 lec, 3 lab hrs/wk)<br />
Introduces various branches of earth science. Includes<br />
basic terminology, fundamental processes and respective<br />
interrelationships. Discusses rock and mineral formation,<br />
plate tectonic theory, volcanism, earthquakes, surficial<br />
processes, and geological time. Includes laboratory<br />
component. Credit cannot be earned for this course<br />
and G221.<br />
GS107 Astronomy<br />
4 credits (3 lec, 3 lab hrs/wk)<br />
A descriptive treatment of the solar system, stars,<br />
stellar evolution, galaxies, and cosmology. The results of<br />
current space missions are emphasized. Recent<br />
discoveries in stellar astronomy will be discussed.<br />
Prerequisite: MTH70 with a “C” or better.<br />
GS108 Oceanography<br />
4 credits (3 lec, 3 lab hrs/wk)<br />
Studies the ocean and its phenomena. Discusses the<br />
chemical, biological, geological, and physical nature of<br />
the oceans, the ocean floor, and shoreline. The course<br />
also includes sedimentation, volcanism, plate tectonics,<br />
and other geological aspects of the oceans.<br />
