CS125P Presentation Applications:<br />

Microsoft PowerPoint<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

This course covers the use of microcomputer<br />

presentation software for the development of electronic<br />

presentations. Using word processing skills and<br />

presentation theories, students will learn to develop<br />

professional-looking and effective presentations complete<br />

with outline, speaker notes, and audience handouts.<br />

Prerequisite: CS101 with a “C” or better.<br />

Concurrent: CIS0593.<br />

CS125S Spreadsheet Applications<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

This course will introduce the beginning and intermediate<br />

concepts, terminology, and application of spreadsheet<br />

technology. The student will learn the common features<br />

of spreadsheet software, its application to many business<br />

uses, problem solving techniques, and issues involved in<br />

choosing and installing spreadsheet software. It will use<br />

one or more commercially available spreadsheet<br />

software packages.<br />

Prerequisite: CS101 with a “C” or better.<br />

CS125W Word Processing Applications:<br />

3 credits (3 lec, hrs/wk)<br />

This course familiarizes students with the use of<br />

microcomputers for word processing applications at<br />

a professional level. This course will introduce the<br />

concepts, terminology, and application of word<br />

processing technology. The student will learn the<br />

common features of word processing software, its<br />

application to many business uses, elements of style,<br />

and the issues involved in choosing and installing word<br />

processing software.<br />

Prerequisite: CS101 with a “C” or better.<br />

CS125WE Web Editor Applications<br />

3 credits (2 lec, 2 lec-lab hrs/wk)<br />

This course introduces beginning and intermediate skills<br />

to effectively use one or more contemporary web editors.<br />

It addresses the major concepts associated with website<br />

assessment, design, development, publishing, and<br />

maintenance. Emphasis is placed on developing user<br />

friendly and maintainable sites.<br />

Prerequisite: CS101 with a “C” or better.<br />

CS133VB Computer Language I - Visual Basic<br />

4 credits (3 lec, 2 lec-lab hrs/wk)<br />

Introduces the Visual Basic programming language to<br />

learn fundamental programming techniques. Emphasizes<br />

structured and object oriented design and writing of<br />

programs to solve business and/or mathematical<br />

problems. Students will learn problem solving, procedural<br />

programming, develop a graphical user interface, and<br />

work with events and objects.<br />

Prerequisite: CS101 with a “C” or better.<br />

CS133WS Computer Language I - Client-side<br />

Web Scripting<br />

4 credits (3 lec, 2 lec-lab hrs/wk)<br />

CS133WS is an introductory computer programming<br />

course as well as an intermediate web design course.<br />

The purpose is to introduce the basic concepts of<br />

developing an interactive website with the use of a<br />

client-side scripting language, emphasizing concepts of<br />

good website design and construction. Beginning and<br />

intermediate scripting language topics covered may<br />

include algorithm development, functions, decisions,<br />

repetition, windows and frame manipulation, interactive<br />

forms, and an introduction to cookies. A working<br />

knowledge of HTML coding is required to be successful<br />

in this course.<br />

Prerequisite: CS125H.<br />

CS135DB Advanced Database Applications<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

This course will explore relational database theory and<br />

structured program development. Includes design,<br />

development, testing, implementation, and<br />

documentation of database management systems in a<br />

microcomputer DBMS environment. Topics include<br />

designing complex reports, customizing forms with<br />

advanced form techniques, changing and customizing<br />

tables, creating and using macros, creating and using an<br />

application system, and creating and maintaining an<br />

online database<br />

Prerequisite: CS125DB with a “C” or better.<br />

CS135W Advanced Word Processing:<br />

Desktop Publishing<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

Use of microcomputer word processing software for<br />

desktop publishing. Using word processing skills and<br />

design/layout theories, students will learn how to develop<br />

professional-looking and effective publications.<br />

Prerequisite: CS125W with a “C” or better.<br />

Concurrent: CIS0593.<br />

CS140 Introduction to Operating Systems<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

This course introduces the student to the theory and<br />

operation of microcomputer operating systems. It will<br />

include disk and file handling techniques, common<br />

utilities, security issues, minor hardware installation and<br />

maintenance, and the use of networks. It will use one or<br />

more commercially available operating systems,<br />

including Windows XP.<br />
