BA236 Electronic Commerce Fundamentals<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course will examine the use of electronic commerce<br />
from three perspectives: business-to-consumers,<br />
business-to-business, and intra-organizational. Through<br />
readings and case studies, both current and prospective<br />
e-commerce practices will be identified. In particular, this<br />
course aims to prepare students to excel in electronic<br />
commerce in three ways: 1) Personal level: students will<br />
acquire skills, which will allow them to develop<br />
applications on the Internet, 2) Firm level: students will<br />
acquire skills, which will allow them to examine the<br />
issues concerning how a company would strategically<br />
justify the investment of establishing an Internet<br />
presence, 3) Industry level: students will gain an<br />
understanding of the potential strategic impacts<br />
electronic commerce could have on altering the structure<br />
of entire industries.<br />
Prerequisite: BA223 with a “C” or better.<br />
BA238 Sales<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course involves the role of sales as an integral part<br />
of the total marketing function. The application of selling<br />
to behavioral science will be included, with special<br />
emphasis on sales psychology, sales techniques, and the<br />
fundamental principles of sales communications.<br />
Prerequisite: BA223 with a “C” or better.<br />
BA239 Advertising<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
A detailed examination of the purpose, preparation,<br />
placement, and analysis of the various types of<br />
advertisements and relative merits of media such as<br />
television, radio, and the newspaper. Involves<br />
practice in the planning and analysis of complete<br />
advertising campaigns and their coordination with other<br />
marketing strategies.<br />
Prerequisite: BA223 with a “C” or better.<br />
BA242 Introduction to Investments<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
An introduction to American securities markets including<br />
exchanges, over-the-counter markets, bond markets,<br />
options markets, and the money market. Investment<br />
strategies, margin purchases, short selling, and efficient<br />
market theory will also be introduced. Reading financial<br />
news and corporation reports will also be covered.<br />
BA249 Retailing<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
A study of retail strategy, structure and management.<br />
The course stresses the role of the supervisor in the<br />
daily operation of retail work.<br />
Prerequisite: BA223 with a “C” or better.<br />
BA250 Small Business Management/<br />
Entrepreneurship<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course covers the basic principles of business<br />
entrepreneurship, including planning, organizing,<br />
innovation, staffing, and controlling, stressing those<br />
elements needed for financial achievement and<br />
personal reward.<br />
Prerequisite: BA223 with a “C” or better.<br />
BA277 Business Ethics<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course is designed to make the student aware of the<br />
ethical issues currently facing business and to provide<br />
a background against which the student may evaluate<br />
and/or compare his or her own ethical views/stands.<br />
BA280 Field Experience<br />
1-8 credits (3-24 lab hrs/wk)<br />
Practical on-site experience that will allow students<br />
to test knowledge learned in the classroom and<br />
explore the variety of workplaces in which to apply<br />
that knowledge.<br />
Prerequisite: Instructor consent.<br />
BA285 Human Relations in Organizations<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course explores interactions in organizations<br />
by examining human perceptions, communications,<br />
small group dynamics and leadership. Includes the<br />
dynamics of change, cultural diversity, substance abuse,<br />
work stress, ethics and social responsibility, career<br />
development, and the challenges of globalization.<br />
BA288 Customer Service<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course provides a thorough introduction to<br />
customer service skills. The skills, strategies, and<br />
techniques outlined in this course are valuable for every<br />
job, since identifying and satisfying customer needs is at<br />
the heart of every business. This course covers a variety<br />
of skills including identifying customer behavior,<br />
determining customer needs through active listening,<br />
becoming an effective verbal and nonverbal<br />
communicator, honing telephone customer service skills,<br />
handling difficult customers, offering customer service<br />
within a diverse business environment, encouraging<br />
customer loyalty, and practicing service recovery.<br />
CHEMISTRY<br />
CHEM110 Foundations of General, Organic &<br />
Biochemistry<br />
4 credits (4 lec,hrs/wk)<br />
This course is a general survey of chemistry and<br />
biochemistry. It is designed primarily for students in<br />
pre-nursing, some allied health fields, or for students<br />
who need a brief introduction to chemistry. The course<br />
surveys chemical principles from atomic structure<br />
through biochemistry. The course does not have an<br />
associated lab.<br />
