PH121 Elementary Astronomy<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
A descriptive treatment of the solar system: stars,<br />
stellar evolution, galaxies, and cosmology. The results<br />
of current space missions are emphasized. Recent<br />
discoveries in stellar astronomy will be discussed.<br />
Prerequisite: MTH70 with a “C” or better.<br />
PH201/202/203 General Physics<br />
5 credits/term (4 lec, 3 lab hrs/wk)<br />
Study of the physical properties and interactions of<br />
mechanics, sound, heat, light, electricity, magnetism,<br />
and optics. Includes laboratory activities. Must be taken<br />
in sequence.<br />
Prerequisite: MTH112 with a “C” or better.<br />
PH211/212/213 General Physics with Calculus<br />
5 credits/term (4 lec, 3 lab hrs/wk)<br />
Study of the physical properties and interactions of<br />
mechanics, sound, heat, light, electricity, magnetism<br />
and optics. For science and engineering majors. Includes<br />
laboratory activities. Must be taken in sequence.<br />

PS201 American Government: Political Institutions<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
An introduction to American political institutions,<br />
processes and ideology, in relation to politics and<br />
public policy.<br />
PS202 American Government: Policy Issues<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course continues the study of civil liberties and<br />
practical application of powers of the federal<br />
government to society's problems. Current issues<br />
in American politics and the application of federal<br />
government powers to society's problems will be<br />
addressed.<br />
PS203 Local Politics and Government<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course introduces the student to United States state<br />
and local governments with comparative political<br />
behavior in states and communities. The course defines<br />
and discusses the political and institutional processes by<br />
which state and local governments make policy and law.<br />
The course also examines the role of state and local<br />
governments within the federal system of government.<br />
Also offered as PS203A, B, C in one-credit modules.<br />
PS205 International Relations: US Foreign Policy in<br />
the 20th Century<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
The course focuses on the development of US Foreign<br />
Policy within the 20th Century, with an emphasis on past<br />
precedents, new challenges, and how America’s<br />
increasing economic interconnectedness with our<br />
neighbors has changed our policies. The course uses<br />
the World Wars and the Cold War as major events which<br />
have shaped American foreign policy and continues to<br />
do so.<br />
PS280 Field Experience<br />
1-6 credits (33-198 lab hrs/term)<br />
This course offers career exploration and<br />
workplace experience within a widely defined number<br />
of supervised settings which will provide professional<br />
experience in the field of Political Science, political<br />
organizing, and campaigning.<br />
Prerequisite: Instructor consent.<br />

PSY201 General Psychology<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
Introduces principles and theories of human behavior.<br />
Stresses scientific methodology, brain and other<br />
physiological influences on behavior, learning, sensory,<br />
and perceptual processes.<br />
PSY202 General Psychology<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
Focuses on memory, consciousness, language and<br />
thinking, lifespan development, and motivation.<br />
PSY203 General Psychology<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
Focuses on emotion, stress, health, intelligence,<br />
personality, mental disorders, treatment of mental<br />
disorders, and social psychology.<br />
PSY228 Introduction to Social Science Research<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
This course is an introduction to the basic research<br />
methods used by social scientists. The course includes<br />
an introduction to statistical analysis, observational<br />
studies, survey research, and experimental design.<br />
Prerequisite: MTH70 with a “C” or better.<br />
PSY237 Life Span Development<br />
3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />
Designed to survey the major principles of behavior and<br />
patterns of change in people over the lifespan. Revolves<br />
around the area of development in physical, intellectual,<br />
social, personality and cross cultural diversity, for infants,<br />
children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Within the<br />
psychological framework, students will be able to<br />
research and apply development concepts to relevant<br />
problems in daily life.<br />
