CJ5402 ROTA Module II: (Legal Concepts II)<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

Legal Concepts II is the second module of the Reserve<br />

Officer Training Academy. The course exposes reserve<br />

officers to the <strong>Oregon</strong> Motor Vehicle Code, the juvenile<br />

justice system, procedural matters and considerations<br />

of liability in the administration of the law, and related<br />

matters. Course content is based on <strong>Oregon</strong><br />

Department of Public Safety Standards and Training<br />

performance objectives.<br />

CJ5403 ROTA Module III: (Human Behavior)<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

Human Behavior is the third module of the Reserve<br />

Officer Training Academy. The course focuses on a<br />

variety of topics related to the variety of incidents and<br />

people encountered in policing. Topics addressed include<br />

professionalism, domestic conflict management, cultural<br />

dynamics, communication strategies, traumatic incident<br />

awareness and dealing with mentally ill persons. Course<br />

content is based on <strong>Oregon</strong> Department of Public Safety<br />

Standards and Training performance objectives.<br />

CJ5404 ROTA Module IV: (Patrol Procedures)<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

Patrol Procedures is the fourth module of the Reserve<br />

Officer Training Academy. The course focuses on<br />

procedures and practices used in carrying out law<br />

enforcement responsibilities. Topics covered include<br />

patrol and traffic enforcement procedures, DUII<br />

enforcement, hazardous materials awareness, and<br />

contemporary issues in community policing. Course<br />

content is based on <strong>Oregon</strong> Department of Public Safety<br />

Standards and Training performance objectives.<br />

CJ5405 ROTA Module V: (Investigations)<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

Investigation is the fifth module of the Reserve Officer<br />

Training Academy. The module focuses primarily on<br />

aspects of preliminary investigations of crimes and<br />

introduces students to death investigations. Students are<br />

also exposed to accident investigation, investigative<br />

concepts related to controlled substances, and report<br />

writing, among other topics. Course content is based on<br />

<strong>Oregon</strong> Department of Public Safety Standards and<br />

Training performance objectives.<br />

CJ5406 ROTA Module VI: (Skills Proficiency I)<br />

3 credits (10 lec, 55 lec-lab hrs/total)<br />

Skills Proficiency I is the sixth module of the Reserve<br />

Officer Training Academy. The module focuses primarily<br />

on skill needed by police officers to carry out their<br />

responsibilities related to defensive tactics and high-risk<br />

vehicle stops, and on topics related to personal health.<br />

Course content is based on <strong>Oregon</strong> Department of Public<br />

Safety Standards and Training performance objectives.<br />

CJ5407 ROTA Module VII: (Skills Proficiency II)<br />

3 credits (10 lec, 55 lec-lab hrs/total)<br />

Skills Proficiency II is the seventh module of the Reserve<br />

Officer Training Academy. The module focuses primarily<br />

on skills needed by police officers to carry out their<br />

responsibilities related to care, use, and limitations of<br />

firearms and in relation to emergency vehicle operations.<br />

Course content is based on <strong>Oregon</strong> Department of Public<br />

Safety Standards and Training performance objectives.<br />

CJ9355 Private Security Services Provider<br />

Training (Unarmed Private Security Officer)<br />

2 credits (2 lec hrs/wk)<br />

This course covers required training for unarmed private<br />

security providers to become certified in <strong>Oregon</strong> by the<br />

<strong>Oregon</strong> Board on Public Safety Standards and Training.<br />

CJ9375 Search and Rescue Training<br />

2.5 credits (3 lec hrs/wk, 4 TBA hrs )<br />

This course is to prepare students to meet requirements<br />

to become Search and Rescue volunteers.It provides the<br />

training to perform search and rescue activities, including<br />

use of navigational tools, survival skills, mountaineering<br />

skills, and search methods.<br />

CJ9390 Career Development: Criminal Justice<br />

Administration<br />

0 credit (up to 324 hrs/total/term)<br />

A variety of in-service training activities conducted within<br />

criminal justice agencies in the <strong>College</strong> district. Current<br />

issues and problems are addressed along with methods<br />

of alleviating them.<br />

CJ100 Foundations of Criminal Justice<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

This course presents a contemporary view of<br />

the criminal justice system and its processes. The<br />

structural and theoretical framework of the system is<br />

examined and the function, role and practices of police,<br />

courts, and corrections components of the system are<br />

surveyed. Career opportunities in the criminal justice field<br />

are explored.<br />

CJ101/SOC244 Criminology<br />

3 credits (3 lec hrs/wk)<br />

This course offers an interdisciplinary perspective of<br />

crime and criminal behavior in relation to the criminal<br />

justice system. Theoretical approaches to explaining<br />

crime, criminal statistics, typologies, and victimology will<br />

be assessed. The influence of crime theory on public<br />

policy will be explored.<br />
