Business and Office Occupations
Description: The Business and Office Occupation programs provide students with
the knowledge and skills they need for careers in fields such as accounting, finance,
marketing, management and sales. The Business Department at Southwestern
Oregon Community College offers two types of degrees.
The Associate of Science Oregon Transfer in Business degree is designed to
provide the student with the first two years of a four-year degree. After completion of
the first two years, a student transfers to a four-year institution.
The Associate of Applied Science is designed for the student who wants to be
employed in two years and does not intend to transfer to a four-year institution.
Southwestern also offers several certificates for students who need specific skills to
enter the workforce.
The Associate of Applied Science in Marketing prepares students to enter the
marketing field and provides supervised work experience. Students then may be
qualified to move into assistant manager positions.
The Marketing Certificate of Completion is for those who wish to update skills or
increase advancement potential. The courses are designed to provide students with
a strong basic understanding of fundamentals and current practices in the field of
marketing. Businesses will find this short-term certificate especially helpful in
quickly training present and new employees in basic subject matter pertinent to
the marketing function.
