COLOMBIA Juana is 32 years old, lives in Bogotá Colombia with her<br />

family.<br />

She works as an ambassador for Special Olympics, volunteers in Best<br />

Buddies and works one day a week as an assistant teacher in an NGO<br />

that works with children with Down Syndrome, serving as a role model<br />

and as an inspiration to new families.<br />

She plays the flute and is taking English lessons. She swims with<br />

Special Olympics so trains twice a week with the city league and with<br />

the swimming team on her club.<br />

She goes out with Kristian her boyfriend for the last 7 years, enjoys<br />

been a connector for friends and others that have an intellectual<br />

disabilities. She perceives herself as a leader.<br />

She likes watching funny videos and comedy, playing Nintendo, WII and<br />

WIIIFIT plus, watch videos on YouTube, connect with friends by email,<br />

skype and facebook.<br />

Her brothers and sisters are able to move around the city as they wish<br />

and she is not, she thinks that the fears of people around her about<br />

what can happen to her is an obstacle for her independence.<br />

She feels people see her and think she is not able. That hurts; they do<br />

not let me tell them what I think.<br />

She would like to become a preschool teacher, be a leader with her<br />

friends, travel by herself without having to be recommended and<br />

continue to be a volunteer.<br />

Live with my parents them in their world and myself in mine. I want to<br />

make decisions, be more independent in my outings with my friends and<br />

move around the city alone.I would like to go out with my boyfriend any<br />

day we want, she says.<br />

family, she is an artist, she works,<br />

enjoys swimming and horses, she turn<br />

I hope to create many good art works<br />

because people around me are happy<br />

when they see my work.<br />

I am helping my mother in cooking,<br />

cleaning, and laundry. I like cooking.<br />

My work includes key chains, post<br />

cards. They are sold at shops. When I<br />

am ready, I hope I can live in a group<br />

housing scheme under instructor's<br />

supervision like other member of the<br />

Studio<br />

Now, I am happy working in the Studio<br />

and living at home. I worry about my<br />

grandparents because they become<br />

weak and old. But I can help them.<br />

Now I am an adult, I should be kind to<br />

all people.<br />

Last month, when I celebrated Comingof-<br />

Age, I wore formal KIMONO. All my<br />

family, my neighbors, and friends<br />

joined to celebrate. I was very happy.
