34.6 Mode of Measurement and Payment : The measurements of the collapsible steel door (shutter)<br />

shall be considered for the door provided & fixed in position as per dimensions mentioned in the<br />

detailed drawings. The contract rate shall be per square metre of collapsible door fixed on position.<br />

Item No 16 2 Providing, transporting, cutting, fabricating, welding, hosting and erecting in position<br />

welded or bolted structural steel work with tubular sections using ERW tubes of various diameters<br />

erecting using devices like derricks, cranes or any other suitable guys etc. and final bolting, welding,<br />

testing as may be required including two coats of red oxide zinc crome paint of approved colour and<br />

shade. All materials and labours complete.<br />

2.1 General : The item covers the specifications of fabrication and erection of structural steel work<br />

including painting. The structural steel work includes, cutting, fabrication, welding, or bolting, erecting<br />

the structure, painting etc. for various items such as columns, trusses, portals, girders, gantry,<br />

bracings etc.<br />

2.2 Material : This shall comply with specification No.GENERAL SCOPE & MATERIAL- Gen/C/0 and<br />

Gen/C/0.2.5, Gen/C/0.19.2.<br />

2.3 Fabrication and Erection : Cutting, welding, assembly, machining, painting, marking and erection<br />

shall be carried out in accordance with approved plans and as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge<br />

from time to time and shall comply with IS 800 and detailed below.<br />

2.4 Damaged Members :<br />

1. Any material found damaged or defective shall be stacked separately and shall be marked in a<br />

distinctive colour. Such material is to be dealt with expeditiously under the orders of the Engineer-in-<br />

Charge.<br />

2. Welding shall be done, as per specifications.<br />

3. All permanent machine-fitted or other bolts must be perfectly tight and should be burred or<br />

otherwise checked, to prevent nuts <strong>form</strong> becoming loose.<br />

4. Care shall be taken to see that cracks are not filled with paint, putty, cinders, dirt, oil or fillings.<br />

5. Particular care must be taken to ensure free expansion and contraction wherever provided for in<br />

drawings or as the Engineer-in-Charge directs.<br />

2.5 Shop Drawings : The contractor shall prepare shop drawings for the structural steel work/ERW<br />

tubes to be executed as per IS: 800. The contractor shall submit the drawings in triplicate to the<br />

Engineer-in- Charge for his approval. Fabrication shall not be taken in hand until the relevant shop<br />

drawings have been approved by the Engineer-in-Charge. However, the contractor shall remain<br />

wholly responsible for their correct con<strong>form</strong>ation the designs and for accurate fabrication to meet the<br />

requirements of design and the Indian Standard. One copy of the drawings duly approved shall be<br />

returned to contractor and the work shall be carried out according to the approved design.<br />

2.6 Laying Out : As far as possible and whenever necessary, structural parts, ERW Tubes their joints,<br />

gusset plates, etc. shall be drawn out to full size on a level plat<strong>form</strong>, a steel tape being used for<br />

measurement. All angles shall be carefully set out and checked. Gusset plates shall be marked with<br />

as few sides as possible and of such shapes that there is a minimum waste in cutting a large number.<br />

Steel metal templates of adequate dimensions shall be made to correspond to each member and<br />

temperature effect shall be taken into account where necessary.<br />

2.7 Fabrication and Welding : When the lengths of sections required for fabrication are not more than<br />

the standard lengths of rolling, no splicing of shorter length shall be allowed to be fabricated. Unless<br />

provided in the designs or specially permitted in writing by the Engineer-in-Charge.<br />

All the rolled sections <strong>form</strong>ing part of the structural member shall be cut square or accurately to<br />

shapes shown in the detailed drawings dead correct to lengths and shapes, a steel tape being used<br />

for measurement. The cut ends shall be dressed true with hammer, chisel and file or by grinding.<br />
