Explosive remnants <strong>of</strong> war<br />

Under <strong>the</strong> Mine Ban Treaty, victims are defined<br />

as those who are directly impacted and <strong>the</strong>refore<br />

have been killed by a landmine blast or<br />

survived one, as well as <strong>the</strong> surviving family<br />

members <strong>of</strong> those killed and injured. Under <strong>the</strong><br />

Convention on Cluster Munitions, victims also<br />

include affected family members and affected<br />

communities. Throughout this document,<br />

‘victims’ refers to survivors, family members<br />

<strong>of</strong> those affected and affected communities;<br />

‘casualties’ refers to those directly killed or<br />

injured by blasts; while ‘survivors’ specifically<br />

refers to those who have been directly impacted<br />

and survived landmines/Explosive Remnants<br />
