<strong>Community</strong> <strong>guidelines</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>accessing</strong> <strong>for</strong>estry <strong>voluntary</strong> <strong>carbon</strong> markets<br />
Objectives of the <strong>guidelines</strong><br />
The overall aim of the Guidelines is to assist the groups listed above to<br />
decide whether or not to undertake a <strong>for</strong>estry VCM project, and, once<br />
a decision has been taken to proceed with such a project, to provide<br />
guidance on how to design and implement a project that:<br />
a) will benefit the community <strong>for</strong> whom it is intended;<br />
b) mitigates climate change;<br />
c) provides co-benefits; and<br />
d) <strong>for</strong> which all benefits are real, measurable, long-term, and<br />
sustainable.<br />
The specific objectives are the following:<br />
Objective 1: Promote knowledge and learning about the<br />
<strong>for</strong>estry VCM.<br />
NGO workers, extension agents, and advisors who work with local<br />
communities can familiarize themselves with the <strong>for</strong>estry VCM project<br />
cycle in order to build their own ability to provide good, sound advice to<br />
their local partners.<br />
Objective 2: In<strong>for</strong>m the decision-making process regarding<br />
development of <strong>for</strong>estry VCM projects.<br />
Many questions need to be answered be<strong>for</strong>e a well-in<strong>for</strong>med decision<br />
can be made on whether or not to start a <strong>for</strong>estry VCM project. These<br />
<strong>guidelines</strong> address many of these questions, including:<br />
• What kind of knowledge and skills are needed to develop a<br />
<strong>for</strong>estry VCM project?<br />
