<strong>Community</strong> <strong>guidelines</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>accessing</strong> <strong>for</strong>estry <strong>voluntary</strong> <strong>carbon</strong> markets<br />

The templates will be uploaded on completion, including calculations of<br />

actual and projected <strong>carbon</strong> stocks, maps (including GPS coordinates),<br />

additional photos from the field and other background data.<br />

After uploading all necessary in<strong>for</strong>mation the project developer can<br />

request <strong>for</strong> validation online, which is conducted by the technical board<br />

of CarbonFix. Upon successful validation the project can apply <strong>for</strong> the<br />

verification process, which is carried out by an accredited third party.<br />

The frequency of the field verification process can vary from two to five<br />

years, depending on the duration of the project.<br />

2.8.4 Plan Vivo systems and standards<br />

Plan Vivo is a Scottish registered charity and represents a system <strong>for</strong><br />

developing community-based PES projects and programmes. Plan Vivo<br />

is an ethical standard and system that “puts people at the heart of the<br />

solution.” 19<br />

Plan Vivo projects and programmes aim to:<br />

1. Empower communities to take control of their resources<br />

through better land management;<br />

2. Reduce poverty and improve rural livelihoods and food<br />

security;<br />

3. Generate long term, verifiable <strong>carbon</strong> services backed up by a<br />

shared <strong>carbon</strong> buffer; and<br />

4. Enhance ecosystem services such as biodiversity and<br />

watersheds by planting and protecting natural <strong>for</strong>ests.<br />

To date, Plan Vivo has issued certificates covering over 1 million tCO 2<br />

e.<br />
