140 With Love to Muhammad sa the Khātam-un-Nabiyyīn<br />

Second, notice the language of the Holy Prophet<br />

Muhammad sa . He begins his statement with the following<br />

words:<br />

بaنa aَ‎وثلaالابِ‎‏َاءِ‏<br />

إنa‏َ‏ ث ِ<br />

Surely, my similitude in comparison with the other<br />

prophets before me...<br />

This is a clear indication that this example is about the previous<br />

prophets and it has nothing to do with future prophets. The<br />

main issue is about the prophethood of the Promised Messiah as<br />

who was to come after the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa . Hence,<br />

this analogy has nothing to do with this issue. It is only about<br />

the previous prophets.<br />

Third, the Ahmadiyya Muslim understanding of this<br />

hadīth is discussed in The True Meaning of Khatme Nubuwwat in<br />

the following words:<br />

Our opponents put forth another hadīth, which,<br />

according to them, conclusively debars the advent of<br />

any ummatī prophet. The hadīth runs as follows:<br />

Hazrat Abū Hurairah ra reports: “The Messenger<br />

of Allāh sa said: ‘The previous prophets and<br />

myself are like a palace exquisitely built except<br />

for a missing brick in its wall. People wonder<br />

why such a blemish was not attended to. I am<br />

that brick that completed and perfected the<br />

edifice of the palace. That is why I am called the<br />

Khātam of the messengers’.” In another version<br />

of the hadīth, the Holy Prophet sa said: ‘I am that
