International Council <strong>of</strong><br />
Community <strong>Churches</strong>*<br />
This body is a fellowship <strong>of</strong> locally autonomous,<br />
ecumenically minded, congregationally<br />
governed, non-creedal <strong>Churches</strong>. The Council<br />
came into being in 1950 as the union <strong>of</strong> two former<br />
councils <strong>of</strong> community churches, one formed<br />
<strong>of</strong> black churches known as the Biennial Council<br />
<strong>of</strong> Community <strong>Churches</strong> in the United States <strong>and</strong><br />
Elsewhere <strong>and</strong> the other <strong>of</strong> white churches known<br />
as the National Council <strong>of</strong> Community <strong>Churches</strong>.<br />

Founded August, 1988 from three groups <strong>of</strong><br />
ministers <strong>and</strong> churches <strong>of</strong> conservative Wesleyan<br />
holiness tradition. Sponsor mission works in six<br />
countries on four continents. Locally autonomous<br />
congregations cooperate for missions, education,<br />
youth camps, religious gatherings, etc. Congregational<br />
goverment at Assembly level. International<br />
Assembly held biannually on even numbered<br />
years. Officers include General Superintendent<br />
<strong>and</strong> a 20-member Board comprised <strong>of</strong> 10<br />
clergy <strong>and</strong> 10 non-clergy, elected by the<br />
International Assembly. The International<br />
Fellowship <strong>of</strong> Bible <strong>Churches</strong>, Incorporated is an<br />
association <strong>of</strong> autonomous congregations <strong>and</strong><br />
parachurch ministries joined together by common<br />
persuasions, purposes <strong>and</strong> principles. International<br />
refers to our commitment to maintaining a consciousness<br />
<strong>of</strong> the global <strong>and</strong> universal nature <strong>of</strong><br />
the Church <strong>of</strong> Jesus Christ, as well as our firm<br />
commitment to active service as part <strong>of</strong> that universal<br />
<strong>and</strong> international church. The Fellowship<br />
currently operates an international ministry in<br />
several locations across the globe. Fellowship<br />
refers to our commitment to the autonomy <strong>of</strong> the<br />
local congregation while maintaining the belief<br />
that we really do need each other. Bible refers to<br />
our commitment to the authority <strong>of</strong> Scripture as<br />
the final guide for all matters <strong>of</strong> faith <strong>and</strong> practice,<br />
both public <strong>and</strong> private. <strong>Churches</strong> refers to<br />
our belief that ministry occurs most efficiently<br />
<strong>and</strong> effectively at the local church level, not at the<br />
denominational or organizational level.<br />

The International Pentecostal<br />
Church <strong>of</strong> Christ<br />
At a General Conference held at London, Ohio,<br />
Aug. 10, 1976, the International Pentecostal<br />
Assemblies <strong>and</strong> the Pentecostal Church <strong>of</strong> Christ<br />
consolidated into one body, taking the name<br />
International Pentecostal Church <strong>of</strong> Christ.<br />
The International Pentecostal Assemblies was<br />
the successor <strong>of</strong> the Association <strong>of</strong> Pentecostal<br />
Assemblies <strong>and</strong> the International Pentecostal<br />
Missionary Union. The Pentecostal Church <strong>of</strong><br />
Christ was founded by John Stroup <strong>of</strong> Flatwoods,<br />
Ketucky, on May 10, 1917 <strong>and</strong> was incorporated<br />
at Portsmouth, Ohio, in 1927. The International<br />
Pentecostal Church <strong>of</strong> Christ is an active member<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Pentecostal/Charismatic <strong>Churches</strong> <strong>of</strong> North<br />
America, as well as a member <strong>of</strong> the National<br />
Association <strong>of</strong> Evangelicals.<br />
The priorities <strong>of</strong> the International Pentecostal<br />
Church <strong>of</strong> Christ are to be an agency <strong>of</strong> God for<br />

US RELIGIOUS BODIES
