Washington St., Dallas, TX 75246-1798 Oikocredit- Ecumenical Development Cooperative Society Based in the Netherlands, EDCS is often called “the churches’ bank for the poor.” EDCS borrows funds from churches, religious communities and concerned individuals and relends the funds to enterprises operated by lowincome communities. Launched in 1975 through an initiative of the World Council of Churches, EDCS is organized as a cooperative of religious institutions and is governed by annual membership meetings and an elected board of religious leaders and development and financial professionals. An international network of 15 EDCS Regional Managers is responsible for lending funds to cooperative enterprises and microcredit institutions. At the present time over $530 million is at work in micro loans. This includes coffee shops, fishing enterprises, handicraft production, truck farming, and many other commercial ventures owned and operated by poor people. Oikocredit is represented in the United States by Oikocredit USA, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. Douglas Whiting Pentecostal-Charismatic Churches of North America The Pentecostal-Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA) was organized October 19, 1994, in Memphis TN. This organizational meeting came the day after the Pentecostal Fellowship of North America (PFNA) voted itself out of existence in order to make way for the new fellowship. The PFNA had been formed in October 1948 in Des Moines, IA. It was composed of white-led Pentecostal denominations. The move to develop a multiracial fellowship began when the PFNA Board of Administration initiated a series of discussions with African-American Pentecostal leaders. The first meeting was held July 10-11, 1992, in Dallas, TX. A second meeting convened in Phoenix, AZ, January 4-5, 1993. On January 10-11, 1994, 20 representatives from each of the two groups met in Memphis to make final plans for a Dialogue which was held in Memphis, October 1994. This racial reconciliation meeting has been called “The Memphis Miracle.” During this meeting the PFNA was disbanded, and the PCCNA was organized. The new organization quickly adopted the “Racial Reconciliation Manifesto.” Subsequent meetings were held in Memphis, TN (1996), Washington, DC (1997), Tulsa, OK (1998), and Hampton, VA (1999) In an effort to further increase the spirit of reconciliation, the PCCNA meeting of 2000 was held during the North American Renewal Service committee (NARSC) Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Religion In American Life (RIAL) is a unique cooperative program of some 50 major national religious groups (Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Jewish, Protestant, Muslim, etc.). It provides services for denominationally-supported, congregation-based outreach and growth projects such as the current Invite a Friend program. These projects are promoted through national advertising campaigns reaching the American public by the use of all media. The ad campaigns are produced by a volunteer agency with production-distribution and administration costs funded by denominations and business groups, as well as by individuals. Since 1949, RIAL ad campaign projects have been among the much coveted major campaigns of The Advertising Council. This results in as much as $35 million worth of time and space in a single year, contributed by media as a public service. Through RIAL, religious groups demonstrate respect for other traditions and the value of religious freedom. The RIAL program also includes seminars and symposia, research and leadership awards and produces a weekly syndicated radio broadcast, “SpiriTalk”.
