The doctrine and polity of this body are quite
similar to that of white Primitive Baptists, yet
there are local associations and a national convention,
organized in 1907.
Each church is independent and receives and
controls its own membership. This body was formerly
known as Colored Primitive Baptists.
Netherlands Reformed
Congregations
The Netherlands Reformed Congregations
trace their denominational origin to several U.S.
congreagtions in the latter half of the nineteenth
century. In the early 1900s several more congregations
were organized. After the Second Wolrd
War, iimigration from the Netherlands gave rise to
still more congregations, especially in Canada.
Currently a little over half the mebership resides in
Canada. Their sister denomination in the
Netherlands is the Gereformeerde Gemeenten,
which were organized in 1907.
Doctrinal standards are the confession of Faith
(1561), the Heidelberg Catechism (1563), and the
Canons of Dordt (1618-1619). This indicates the
denomination is rooted in the Reformation of
1517. The congregation are divided into three
Classes, which meet at least one a year. Every two
years a Synod is held.
