a nonprofit organization supported by individual
contributions and related to more than thirty
religious organizations. Its purpose is to defend
and extend the rights of conscientious objectors
register for the draft while documenting one’s
convictions as a conscientious objector, how to
cope with penalties if one does not cooperate,
and how to qualify as a conscientious objector
while in the Armed Forces. It also provides
information for counselors and the public about
conscientious objection, military service and
the operation of the draft. It provides information
to and support for conscientious objectors
in other countries.
As a national resource center it assists research
in its area of interest including the peace witness
of religious bodies. Its staff provides referral to
local counselors and attorneys and professional
support for them. Through publications and
speaking, CCW encourages people to decide for
themselves what they believe about participation
in war and to act on the basis of the dictates of
their own informed consciences.
