North Carolina dating back to an association formed in 1758 in North Carolina and Virginia. Today this group consists of approximately 100 churches. They believe in the infallibility of the Bible, the divine ordinances of the Lord’s Supper, feetwashing, baptism and that those who endureth to the end shall be saved. The Separate Baptists are Arminian in doctrine, rejecting both the doctrines of predestination and eternal security of the believer. At the 1991 General Association, an additional article of doctrine was adopted. “We believe that at Christ’s return in the clouds of heaven all Christians will meet the Lord in the air, and time shall be no more,” thus leaving no time for a literal one thousand year reign. (270)678-5599 Serbian Orthodox Church in the U.S.A. and Canada* The Serbian Orthodox Church is an organic part of the Christian Orthodox Church. As a local church it received its autocephaly from Constantinople in 1219 A.D. In 1921, a Serbian Orthodox Diocese in the United States of America and Canada was organized. In 1963, it was reorganized into three dioceses, and in 1983 a fourth diocese was created for the Canadian part of the church. The Serbian Orthodox Church in the USA and Canada received its administrative autonomy in 1928. However, it remains canonically an integral part of the Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate with its see in Belgrade. Dennis Pavichevich Federation of Circles of Serbian Sisters Serbian Singing Federation Periodicals The Path of Orthodoxy Seventh-day Adventist Church The Seventh-day Adventist Church grew out of a worldwide religious revival in the mid-19th century. People of many religious persuasions believed Bible prophecies indicated that the second coming or advent of Christ was imminent. When Christ did not come in the 1840s, a group of these disappointed Adventists in the United States continued their Bible studies and concluded they had misinterpreted prophetic events and that the second coming of Christ was still in the future. This same group of Adventists later accepted the teaching of the seventh-day Sabbath and became known as Seventh-day Adventists. The denomination organized formally in 1863. The church was largely confined to North America until 1874, when its first missionary was sent to Europe. Today, over 65,961 congregations meet in 203 countries and areas of the world. Membership exceeds 16 million and increases between three and a half to four percent each year. In addition to a mission program, the church has the largest worldwide Protestant parochial school system with approximately 7,597 schools with more than 1,545,000 students on elementary through college and university levels. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) helps victims of war and natural disasters, and many local congregations have community service facilities to help those in need close to home. The church also has a worldwide publishing ministry with 61 printing facilities producing magazines and other publications in over 369 languages and dialects. In the United States and Canada, the church sponsors a variety of radio and television programs, including Christian Lifestyle Magazine, It Is Written, Breath of Life, Ayer, Hoy, y Mañana, Voice of Prophecy, and La Voz de la Esperanza. The North American Division of Seventh-day Adventist includes 58 Conferences which are grouped together into nine organized Union Conferences. The first Seventh Day Baptists of record in America were Stephen and Ann Mumford, who emigrated from England in 1664. Beginning in 1665 several members of the First Baptist Church at Newport, R.I. began observing the seventh day Sabbath, or Saturday. In 1671, five members, together with the Mumfords, formed the first Seventh Day Baptist Church in America at Newport. Beginning about 1700, other Seventh Day Baptist churches were established in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. From these three centers, the denomination grew and expanded westward. They founded the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference in 1802. The organization of the denomination reflects an interest in home and foreign missions, publications and education. Women have been encouraged to participate. From the earliest years religious freedom has been championed for all and the separation of church and state, advocated. Seventh Day Baptists are members of the Baptist World Alliance and Baptist Joint Committee. The Seventh Day Baptist World Federation has 17 member conferences on six continents.
