YMCA of the USA
The YMCA is one of the largest private voluntary
organizations in the world, serving about
30 million people in more than 100 countries. In
the United States, more than 2,000 local
branches, units, camps and centers annually
serve more than 14 million people of all ages,
races and abilities. About half of those served
are female. No one is turned away because of an
inability to pay.
The Y teaches youngsters to swim, organizes
youth basketball games and offers adult aerobics.
But the Y represents more than fitness— it
works to strengthen families and help people
develop values and behavior that are consistent
with Christian principles.
The Y offers hundreds of programs including
day camp for children, child care, exercise for
people with disabilities, teen clubs, environmental
programs, substance abuse prevention,
family nights, job training and many more programs
from infant mortality prevention to
overnight camping for seniors.
The kind of programs offered at a YMCA will
vary; each is controlled by volunteer board
members who make their own program, policy,
and financial decisions based on the special
needs of their community. In its own way, every
Y works to build strong kids, strong families,
and strong communities.
The YMCA was founded in London,
England, in 1844 by George Williams and
friends who lived and worked together as
clerks. Their goal was to save other live-in
clerks from the wicked life of the London
streets. The first members were evangelical
Protestants who prayed and studied the Bible as
an alternative to vice. The Y has always been
nonsectarian and today accepts those of all
faiths at all levels of the organization.

YWCA of the U.S.A.
The YWCA of the U.S.A. is comprised of
313 affiliates in communities and on college
campuses across the United States. It serves
one million members and program participants.
It seeks to empower women and girls to
enable them, coming together across lines of
age, race, religious belief, economic and occupational
status to make a significant contribution
to the elimination of racism and the
achievement of peace, justice, freedom and
dignity for all people.

Youth for Christ-USA
Founded in 1944, our mission is: YFC
reaches young people everywhere, working
together with the local church and other likeminded
partners to raise up lifelong followers
of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle,
devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion
for sharing the love of Christ and commitment
to social involvement.
Youth for Christ is active in 180 areas across
the U.S., representing over 2,000 different locations
where young people are being reached.
There are over 70,000 teens involved each week
in U.S. programs. Over 1,500 staff, 15,800 volunteers,
and 6,300 student leaders are involved
in the U.S. YFC/USA is part of an international
movement involving over 100 countries, with
each country having their own indigenous leadership.
Worldwide, over 125,000 young people
began a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
last year as part of various YFC ministries.

teens in correctional facilities, group
