James J. Bushnell ('44), died in July
1992 in Birmingham, AL. He was a
physician at Brookwood Medical
Center, a hospital in Birmingham he
helped found in 1973. He was killed
tragically by a vehicle outside the
Center just weeks before his retirement.
Survivors include a Phi cousin,
Scott E. Crowley, Iowa State '40.

Randolph Hearst Jr.
Famous Phi, WUUam Randolph Hearst Jr., California '29, the head of
Hearst newspapers died May 14 at the age of 85. He started out as a
police reporter, covered World War II in Europe, and shared a 1956 PuUtzer
Prize in international reporting after a series of
interviews with Soviet leaders.
He spent nearly four decades as editor-in-chief of
the Hearst newspaper chain, and he wrote a Sunday
editorial column called "Editor's Report." Hearst was
responsible for moving his newspaper chain into the
electronic age.
