competition, band frolic, we took second place.
We have also gained control of the townhouses
where we are located, and we will no longer have
to go through the University to secure our
housing. We will now be able to add facilities.
Bosie Bingo philanthropy
such as the already constmcted basketball court,
due to our new control of our housing. —Martin
Tallahassee, FL 32301. This year will go down as
the year of Florida Gamma's turnaround.
Improvements were made in areas of scholarship.
intramural sports, and community service. But
most importantly, the brothers of Florida Gamma
are proud to announce the success of the new
Phikeia program, which stresses positive
reinforcement. As a result of all the positive
changes that have been
made, the morale of the
chapter has sky-rocketed.
Florida Gamma will be
sending a record-setting 28
delegates to Leadership
College this August, which
is 65% of the chapter's
current membership. This is
the largest delegation we
have ever sent. The main
goal of the trip will be to
improve the chapter's
mshing techniques, as we
are already planning on a
big rush for Fall 1993. All
alumni and actives from all
chapters are more than
swelcome to come visit us
and participate in our rush
activities during the week of
August24-28.
There are 16 brothers
currently living in the house. This summer,
approximately 20 brothers will reside in the
house, and In the Fall 1993, we will surpass the
house capacity with a total of 30 brothers. There is
a waiting list of brothers who are anxious to move
in.
Due to the number of brothers and the poor
condition of the house we are renting, Florida
Gamma Is looking to build a new chapter house.
The chapter has located land that is for sale and
is currently trying to raise money to purchase it.
Without a chapter adviser, we are having
difficulties starting the project. Virtually all
knowledge of Florida Gamma's alumni program
was lost after the University suspension in 1988,
so we are starting from scratch in alumni relations.
Therefore, a new edition of Florida Gamma's
alumni newsletter, The Sword & Shield," will be
mailed early this summerand will address our
cun'ent housing problem, as well as the activities
forthe upcoming year.
the summer, the chapter was ready to get right
into school and meet new freshman. Fundraiser,
Michael Mullin, organized 20 of the brothers to
work at a Florida Gators football game in
Gainesville. OurChristmasformal at Brother John
Hermansen's house was a great event for
everyone.
We pledged four new Phikeias in January: Chris
Dunn, Peter Rosato, Todd Servick, and David
Welch.Thechapterwas excited for these four
young men and had an incredible time on pledge
Saturday. The pledge program was run very well
by Doug Thompson, pledgemaster. During midwinter
break many brothers went to Key West and
had the time of their lives. During this time,
Matthew Levy was initiated. Brothers Lorenzo
Borghese and Jeremy Fernandes were seldom
seen, because of extenuating circumstances.
Florida did everything from rockin' Pi Phi'sarrow
to slip slidin' away with Delta Gamma's prized
anchor in their annual water event.
We started the year off rightwhen we captured
first place in Delta Gamma's annual Anchor
Splash competition (the biggest sorority event on
campus). We captured the attention of all the
otherfraternities as well. Despite the huge gap in
membership between ourchapterandthe largest
fraternity on campus (about 105), the UCF Phis
dominated Anchor Splash in most of their
individual categories including Penny Drop, King
Neptune, Synchronized Swimming, and Spirit.
We also did well in other campus events like
Greek Week, where we held fifth overall and third
place in the GreekSing competition. We also saw
their best intramural hockey season to date, going
all the way to five periods into the finals.
This year we also had a handful of brothers
give up their spring breakto clean our house and
paint the downstairs rooms—just in time for
Founders Day when we hosted our alumni (a
result of our improved alumni newsletter) for a
cookout and some words about the beginning of
