accomplishment made by Texas Zeta this year,
however, is the reestablishment of ouralumni
program thanks to our new chapter adviser, Tom
Hill. Mr. Hill rekindled a Phi Delta Theta tradition
this year that had been absent from Texas Zeta
for some time: Founders Day. We had the rare
privilege of having Dr, Ed Whipple, General
Council president, speak at our Founders Day,
Texas Zeta thanks Mr, Hill and Dr, Whipplefor
Texas Omicron (1991 ),P0 Box 7622, Univ. of
North TX, Denton, TX 76203. Chapter Adviser -
Donald D. Halpenny, 275 Friendship Road,
Pilot Point, TX 76258. Rush Chairman - Patton
Adams, PO Box 7622, Denton, TX 76209. After
attaining ourcharter in 1991, the men of Texas
Omicron are now concentrating on increasing
membership. We have adopted an extensive yearlong
rush program in which the brothers will travel
to surrounding metropolitan areas this summerto
meet incoming freshmen. This program has
proven helpful in attracting rushees during the
recent nationwide rush recession.
Texas Omicron has just initiated its 52*
member Marcus Ling, and we are looking
optimistically toward next fall's rush.
The Phi Delts at North Texas have pride not
only in their fratemity but also in their school. This
is evident by their commitment to donating a
portion of their community sen/ice hours to the
campus clean-up. This year we participated in a
March of Dimes sponsored Crop Walk. This event
is held annually in Denton to provide food supply
relief to under-developed nations. The idea was
brought to the attention of the chapter by Phi Delt
Alumnus Morgan Jones, who is an active officer of
the Crop Walk committee.
Our new brothers, along with ourfounding
fathers, have put Phi Delta Theta at the pinnacle
of Greekathletics. We made the playoffs in
football and in indoor soccer for the second
straight year, Texas Omicron won the Greek
softball championship. The Phi Delts were also
the three-point basketball champions and the
racquetball doubles champions.
We have set our goal to be in the top three
fraternity GPAs on campus. Through the use of
study groups, we have increased our GPA, and
every man is committed to improving his grades.
It has been satisfying to see the other bigger
and olderf raternities look upon the men of Phi
Delta Theta as an important leader on campus,
Anderson Jr., 2005 W. Nathan Lowe Road,
Ariington, TX 76017. Rush Chairman - Ethan
Vickery, 2423 Spanish Trail, Arlington, TX
76016. Texas Kappa acquired some very sharp
Phikeias this year. On October 23 and 24 we
raised $2,500 forthe local chapter of Muscular
Dystrophy Association, We teamed up with the
Trinity River Authority at Joe Pool Lake to sponsor
the Forest of Fear, Greg Graham, the event
chairman, worked very hard to ensure a very
successful event.
We initiated nine men in January, This initiation
was particularly special because 20 alumni
attended. Many of the alumni who attended were
ourfounders. Ourfirstfather-son legacy was
initiated in January,
Texas Kappa has five Phikeias this spring. As
of rightnow, we are without a house or a central
meeting place. This is very hard during rush and
during the Phikeia program. We stick together and
keep moving ahead, despite this obstacle. The
Texas Kappa House Corporation has made
significant progress in the planning of our new
home. They have showed us the finalized plans
from the architect, and our wait should be well
worth it.
Our rush committee is gearing up for thefall,
and Texas Kappa is looking forward to having a
good summerand enjoying some brotherhood,
