Chapter Newsletters system has reached the top again in 1993. We have two members of Sigma Sigma Honorary, four members of Men of Metro, four members of Order of Omega, the vice president and secretary of Student Advisors, the president, vice president and two other members of the Student Alumni Council and several members in Student Government. We have varsity athletes in baseball, golf, rowing, and lacrosse. We just recently completedaphilanthropy project with several otherGreekchapters. We pledged $2,400 tothe Samantha Woolery Fund, which will fund the purchase of a new van with a liftforthis little giri's wheelchair. Along with the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Ohio Theta built a homecoming float out of more than 2,000 cans of food which were then donated to a local food shelter. Ohio Theta has also completed smaller projects with the Campflre Kids, the state's Adopt- A-Highway program, and we arecurrently landscaping the neighborhood's hillside. This past year Ohio Theta had a strong showing in the intramurals program. Members also serve as the 1 FC vice president, secretary, justice, and several members sit on committees. Redbud, Broken Arrow, OK74012. Oklahoma Beta had many goals this year, the first of which was to regain our charter. That happened this past spring, after a year of hard work. The next goal waste strengthen our brotherhood. We held a chapter retreat and other chapter-only events once each week. Our biggest goal was to increase our membership. We initiated Bond number 1038 this spring, and we elected two rush chairman to plan a successful fall rush. We have enjoyed considerable success in intramural sports. Weorganizedfourbasketball teams, and two wentto the playoffs. In badmitton, the team of Ronnie Boyle and Jason Johnson tooksecond place honors in theGreekdivision. In Softball and floor hockey, two of ourthree teams in each sport wentto the playoffs. Unfortunately, they all lost in the first round. We are gearing up forthe intramural track meet which will be held May 1, As of April 27, we are ranked seventh out of 22 fraternities on campus. In Freshmen Follies, we won best vocals, most original, and second place overall. In Spring Sing, we tookthird place overall. We also earned the award for best participation. We are already anticipating victory next year. Rush Chairman Andrew Bell, 33 Stevenson Ave., Ottawa, ON K1S 5H8. The year at Ontario Epsilon started off long before the academic year, sometime during the summer. Everyone in the Fraternity had one goal in mind—the charter and initiation as brothers of Phi Delta Theta, A retreat was held at the end of summer with Scott MacDonald, rush chairman, as host. It served to renew friendships and to get down to pressing business. It was a success. Everyone left motivated with an eagerness that carried us through preparingforinitiation, planning the installation, composing the charter petition, organizing fund raisers, and executing rush and formal pledging—all before the end of November, Rush brought 14 new members, and on November 19,1992, the colony pledges became members. On the 20*, all 36 of us were initiated as true Phi's and on Saturday the 21", the colony was installed as achapter, and ourcharterwas received by President Tony Robillard and founder, Eric Perron, Another retreat was held by social chairman. They experienced the chapter's very first initiation ceremony and became proud brothers on April 4,1993, Organized by brotherNorm Paquette for the ALS Society of Ottawa, all the members of the chapter and other participants took part in the Second Annual Phi Delta Theta Quest for Hope Bike-a-thon, Originally scheduled for Aprils, heavy snow delayed it to April 10. Ontario Gamma has continued to strive for excellence this year. Ouroverall GPA increased by more than a full point, and several of our members received recognitionfortheir achievements. We have created new scholarship awards to inspire greater academic performance. We initiated 13 new members this past year. Brothers participated in several philanthropy events from bike ridesto polar dips. However, probably the most memorable of the events was the Leap for Life campaign. One cold morning in October, the brothers lined up in front of the Hamilton City Hall and then leap-frog jumped over one another to the town hall in Dundas—a distance of ten kilometers. The money wentto the Multiple SclerosisSociety, This year also saw us complete a large number of successful social events not the least of which was our joint formal with the other Greek societies on campus. We even managed a game of Hockey against our rival. Delta Upsilon. Anumber of the brothers also visited chapters in the United States during our reading week in February, Individuals within the chapter have distinguished themselves and brought honourto our chapter through their efforts. Brent Herspiegal ran for president of the students union before accepting a position as a chapter consultant with General Headquarters, Greg Winter was elected president of the I FC on campus. Ourfirst-term rush was a tremendous success, A total of eight Phikeias were initiated, making this the second most successful first-term rush of any of the U of T campus fraternities. However, our second term rush was not as successful, and we were forced to cancel our secondterm Phikeia program. This past February, we held a very successful Founders Day. We also held a very exciting first term formal. However, due to several internal problems and ongoing financialdifficulties, we were forced to cancel several exchanges as well as our second term formal. At the end of this academic term, eight brothers graduated, leaving ouractive membership at only 12 members. Our membership is 22 brothers and two Phikeias. This yearwas very challenging and an excellent learning experience, since we are no longer in a house and are working our way out of debt. These temporary setbacks have not kept us down; we still managed to meet for occasional dinners and social gatherings. We had four brothers in student government this year and will have at least three this upcoming year. The chapter wanted to develop closer contact with area Phi Delt alumni, so we held our tenth anniversary celebration in the fall, the chapter's twelfth annual Snow-Blowout at Sunriver Resort during the winter, and another alumni weekend during the spring. During winterterm we also held ourfirst Founders Day banquet, which we hope will be an annual event. Our efforts were recognized by the University and International Fraternity, At the 69* Biennial Convention in Ariington, VA, the chapter retumed to Oregon with the Scholarship Award for academic excellence and the Gold Star Award for chapter excellence. We dedicate the 1993 Gold Star Application for Chapter Excellence to those who believed in our efforts. The dance raised more than $30,000 forthe children with cancer atthe Hershey Medical Center, In April, the chapter joined with Gamma Phi Beta in the University's 1993 Spring Week, Chapterenthusiasm helped the brothers bring home third place overall.
