The 1994 Phi DeltaTheta General Convention will be held this coming summer,June 16 - 19.
This important meeting will be held for brothers and friends from across Canada and the United
States in Scottsdale,Arizona. Brothers who have attended past Conventions will tell you it is an
experience not to be missed.
The names Phoenix and Scottsdale conjure up many images:sun-drenched skies ... world class
accommodations ... breathtaking desert beauty... southwestern history... outdoor recreation ... a
community on the rise. Phoenix and Scottsdale are all of these and more!
The area's roots can be traced to A.D. 300 when Hohokam Indians inhabited what is now
Phoenix.While the Hohokam people disappeared more than 500 years ago, their contributions
and cultural influences remain with us today.
Presently, more than 23 Indian reservations are found in Arizona.These reservations are
home to more than 50,000 Native Americans from 17 different tribes.
Modern Phoenix was founded on the banks of the Salt River in I860. It was named by a
settler who predicted a great city would rise from the ancient Hohokam ruins, much as the
legendary Phoenix bird rose from its ashes.
Phoenix is the ninth largest city in the U.S.A., with more than 980,000 people. More than
two million people make their homes in the Valley of the Sun.
In addition to some of the finest hotels and resorts in the world, the valley offers first rate
shopping, dining and recreational opportunities.
Phoenix also has become one of America's manufacturing high-tech centers. Its low cost of
