Going to classes aU day didnt stop the Phis from having fun.
During the general sessions, chapters entertained with elaborate
cheers in answer to Sparlw Reardon's roU caU, and hundreds of
Phis traded T-shirts at the annual T-Shirt Swap. After each day of
intense learning and discussion at the seminars and chapter meetings,
manv Phis participated in Phi Sports, a three-sport
toumament which took place aU week long. More than 120 Phis
pl^ed voUeybaU, basketbaU, and racquetbaU for the coveted
championship T-shirts. Team Blue Phi won it aU in the volleybaU
competilion. Team Drake, Phis fix)m Iowa Gamma, won the basketbaU
tournament, and John Jackson of Florida Theta won the
racquetbaU competition.
Every Leadership CoUege chapter also had to present an outline
of a hypothetical rush program. The competition produced
many elaborate and thoughtfiil ideas on how to improve rush, but
in the end it was Larry Baratta's Delta Chapter that won. The undergraduates
suggested holding a community service event during
rush, organimig a symposium on multiculturaUsm to reach out to
other ethnic groups, identifying legades, involving alumni, and
David Almacy, the chapter
consultant to last ^sit the
chapter, stated "The men of
Missouri Beta truly exemplify
characteristics that aU chapters
of Phi DeltaTheta
should strive to attain. Involvement
in campus and
community organizations, as
weU as relations with the International
Theta chapter demonstrating
prestige, but also because of
our strong aluirmi base in
The campus involvement
of the members and their extensive
community service
program helped the men reach
the top spot They boasted
both the president and vice
president of the student govemment,
representation on 15 committees
or boards. A new member
