Phi Delta Theta's five-day leadership training workshop
sees record attendance and earns kudos from students
One of the most popular and important programs in the Fraternity
experienced a record attendance this year. Growing interest in the
now annual Leadership CoUege (it had been biennial until 1990) led
to the largest participation in the program to date with more than
650 undergraduates, alumni, and faculty attending the five-day
event held in August at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The
theme of the CoUege, "The Standard for Brotherhood," reflected the
curriculum's concentration on rush and on the high standards of Phi
Delta Theta. This year's program was sponsored by a $45,000 grant
from the Phi Delta Theta Foundation, the largest grant the Foundation
has given the Fraternity for the CoUege.
The interaction with other undergraduates,
valuable learning opportunities, and
dedicated faculty have not only given the
CoUege a reputation for fim but for changing
the way undergraduate leaders think about
methods of operating a fraternity.
"Undergrads continue to comment that
this is the most positive and enriching experience
the Fraternity has to offer," said Art Hoge, the dean of the
Leadership CoUege and Phi Delta Theta's leadership commissioner.
"The enthusiam of these students was fantastic."
Although each chapter is required to send only three delegates.
North Dakota Alpha was so enthusiastic about the program it sent
11 of its leaders and the chapter adviser to the Leadership
