1992 Educational Foundation Report Columbia University. He was a lifelong teacher of mathematics, but he was also proud of the fact that he coached a rifle team which won the national highschool championship in 1951. He served with distinction during World War n, entering the United Arthur Musselman States Army as a captain and being discharged as a colonel. He and his wife, Margaret, moved to Horida in 1961 to enjoy retirement, but he soon resumed teaching his favorite subject in several area high schools untU 1972. The writer presented Founders Club recognition to Brother Musselman at his home in early January. He entered the Chapter Grand two months later. The Watson E. Slabaugh, Case Western Reserve '29, Memorial Fund was made possible by gifts from his many friends and especially through the generosity of his family. For many years, Watty was active in community affairs including Rotary, United Community Service, YMCA, Home Builders Club, Woodland Club, and Phi Delta Theta. His unique source of energy and enthusiasm was a catalytic force behind the Mansfield Alumni Club. He was instrumental in the organization and success of annual rush parties which were held for graduating seniors who were departing for colleges and universities where Phi Delta Theta chapters were located. He remained an avid tennis player aU his life. These gifts bring the total of endowed named funds to 23. Foimders Club recognition has been granted posthumously to Watson Slabaugh former Foundation trustee James M. Collins, Southern Methodist '37. FoUowing his graduation from SMU, he earned MBA degrees from Northwestern University and Harvard University. Not oiUy was he president of the Texas Delta chapter as an undergraduate, but he Thank You. Many companies contribute to Phi Delta Theta Educational Foundation through matching gift programs. Contributions given by current or retired employees, which meet guidelines of the company, are matched at least one to one. Matching gifts are added to the individual's cumulative giving record. Trustees establish new giving levels At a 1992 meeting, the Foundation trustees adjusted the giving levels. Here are the new levels, amounts, and number of alumni in each level. The number of members in each level reflects cumulative giving, regardless of whether a gift was received in 1992. During the 1992 solicitation campaign, 340 members were added to various giving levels, and the Foundation received gifts from 514 first-time donors. The number of alurrmi who have given gifts totaUng less than $100 is 19,786. The number of Uving alumni who have contributed at least once to the Foundation is 32,875. Abrev. 1992 Educational Foundation Report im Collins also served as student-body president. Jim spent an active life in the insurance industry, and in 1967 began what was to be an eight-term career as a Representative in the United States Congress. Within one year of his appointment as a trustee of the Foundation, his career came to an untimely end. Brother MUo E. Chelovitz, Akron '60, graduated with a bachelor of arts and mathematics. He went on to a very successful business career and, in the process, produced two sons, Eric J. and Christopher M., who were initiated into Phi Delta Theta by the chapter at BowUng Green State Uruversity. As a statement of his beUef in the fraternal system and his love for Phi Delta Theta, he elected to become a member of the Founders Club during the past year. He has long been associated with the Akron Alumni Club and has been a loyal supporter of the Ohio EpsUon chapter, where he played a prominent role in the recent renovation of the chapter house. He is vice president of Cap Gemini America Company, a member of the Cap Gemini Sogeti Group, one of the world's largest professional software services firms. In a move toward the estabUshment of a named fund. Brother Charles W. Poore, South Dakota '61, advanced to the Founders Club level during the past year. Chuck has served the Fratemity for more than 16 years as a province president, assisting the chapters in Nebraska and South Dakota during most of his tenure. He also has served Chuck Poore on numerous convmittees at the international level. He and his wife, Kathy, have been regular participants in General Conventions and various Fratemity conferences.
