president of the St. Petersburg Beach
Alumni Club dies at the age of 72
Dean Meek Hoffman II, Dickinson '41, the 1990
winner of the Raymond L. Gardner "Phi of the
Year" Award, died November 13 after a long '
illness. He was 72-years-old.
Hoffman was an •;
independent insurance
salesman for many years
in St. Petersburg, Florida.
He was a founding
member of the St. Petersburg
Beach Alumni Club
and was president of that

became the regional
director of the National
Alliance of Businessmen, a
program that coordinated government and business to
provide job training and assistance in the private sector.
He retired from the state of Horida in 1980.
Hoffman was very active in the community, founding
the Girls Little League in St. Petersburg in the 1960s. He
managed several championship league teams, as well as
an all-star team that defeated the national Canadian
team.
He was a member of the Pass-a-Grille Community
Church, where he was a past president of the church
trustees and of the Men's Club.
Hoffman was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World
War II and the Korean War. He was a lieutenant senior
grade and a member of the Retired Officers Club..
His father. Dean M. Hoffman, was also a Dickinson
alumnus, class of 1902, and a founding member of the St.
Petersburg Beach Alumni Club.
Hoffman is survived by his Phi son. Dean M.
Hoffman III, Florida International '88.
A memorial fund in Dean Hoffman's name will be
established by the Phi Delta Theta Foundation. Memorial
gifts may be sent to 2 South Campus Avenue,
Oxford, Ohio 45056.

the United Way.

and dedicated employee of

Rubber Company since
1962.
