In the fall of 1992 there were currently 11
fratemities on campus at Clarion University of
Pennsylvania. In late October of thesame year
ChristopherWilliams and Dane Knight conversed
about starting their own fraternity. As Chris
thought about it more and more it started to
become a reality, Chris told his uncle, Gary
Scypta, an alumnus of Ohio Mu,
When Chris came backto Clarion he talked
with a few of his friends, and he made a few
phone calls to Abe Cross, director of chapter
services at General Headquarters. On December
10,1992 Chris and David Banett organized a
meeting in the basement of Wilkinson Hall, and
approximately 25 men attended. During that
meeting Chris handed out some general
infomiation about Phi Delta Theta, As the fall
semester came to a close there was much still up
in tiieair about whether Phi Delta Theta was
coming to the Clarion University campus.
At the start of the spring semester, we found
out that some serious steps had been taken and
that Phi DeltaTheta was interested in us. Our
interest group had two rush parties on February 3,
1993 and on February 7,1993, We had weekly
meetings on Mondays afterthat.
On March 20,1993 Pennsylvania Xi was
officially colonized and was inducted with 21
members strong. This ceremony took place in Still
Auditorium, Province President Bob Heister
presided with colony adviser. Chuck Steeber, and

February 27,1971, the international fraternity of
Phi Delta Theta granted chapter status to its
Georgia Epsilon colony on tiiecampus of Georgia
Southem College.
Febmary 27, on the anniversary of Georgia
Epsilon's original installation. Phi DeltaTheta
returned to Georgia Southern University with a
colony induction ceremony. The event marks the
end of a five-year hiatus.
The colony induction also marks the
culmination of neariy two months of hard work by
30 students. The interest group spent over six
weeks mshing new members, electing officers,
developing a name on campus and producing a
colony petition. The executive officers and
members swiftly drafted the petition to meet the
deadline for recognition during winter quarter. The
colony is now beginning the difficult work of
obtaining a charter. Local alumni have been very
supportive of our efforts.
Twenty-seven men were inducted as colony
members: president, Gavin Miller; vice president,
Jody Beck; treasurer. Rock Helms; secretary,
Michael Appling; rush chairmen, Steve Bauer and
Derrick Alls; warden, Jerry Ward; scholarship
chairman, John Hays; alumni secretaries. Trey
Sikes and Sam Moody; fund-raising chairman,
Darren Stephens; historian, Steve Tippins;
community servicechaimnan, Robert Meguiar;
social chairman, Robert Schuler; Chris Albury;
John Castleberry; Chris Cole; Tracy Davis; Brian
