Create an Environmental
Charter so that all residents
and businesses understand
and practice what is expected
of them in regards to the
District's environmental
policies, regulations and
practices.
The District to take leadership
in demonstrating exemplary
environmental practice within
all its policies and operations.
To continue to implement the
arts and cultural strategy by
reviewing and identifying
specific actions which need to
be addressed.
To develop a social development
strategy for Mission that
describes the priority action
areas related to the social wellbeing
of residents and outlines
where the various agencies and
jurisdictions will partner
together to support, advocate
for and/or deliver specific
community services or
initiatives.
To increase recognition of
and support for community
involvement and volunteerism
in Mission.
ENVIRONMENT
D Final adoption by council of the
Environmental Charter and the
beginning of implementation.
D Adoption of the Environmental
Charter and subsequent policy
implementation to reach the goal
of the District of Mission
demonstrating exemplary
environmental practices.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
D Implementation of the strategy by
the newly created Cultural
Resources Commission.
D Implementation of the social
development plan and substantial
progress of the ten subcommittees
to be formed in 2008.
D Implementation of the community
involvement and volunteerism
strategy.
D A draft Environmental Charter was
adopted in April of 2008. At that time,
council requested a few changes. An
updated Environmental Charter will be
brought back in 2009 for final adoption.
Funding to implement the Charter was
included in the 2009 budget.
D Various initiatives (i.e. banning disposal
of recycling material and a composting
pilot program at the landfill; improved
sprinkling restrictions and a rain barrel
program), have been endorsed by
council to implement the philosophy of
the Charter.
➢ Cultural Resources Commission
meetings are ongoing to implement the
strategy.
D Work has been ongoing throughout
2008 at both the commission and subcommittee
level. Numerous subcommittees
are nearing completion of
their objectives.
D Project has been deferred to 2009.
