INFRASTRUCTURE STUDY - CULTURE, SENIORS AND YOUTH
FINAL DRAFT - SUGGESTED SCOPE OF WORK - JUNE 7, 2009
INTRODUCTION
The District of Mission has recently identified a number of goals for the community, one of which is to
provide for cultural infrastructure needs, including physical space for culture, seniors and youth.
The District has also identified the following specific objectives:
1. To establish the principles that will guide the provision of cultural services and their use.
2. To undertake a space,and needs assessment for the various cultural, youth and seniors groups in
Mission.
3. To provide the most appropriate space in either existing facilities or new multi-use space, if
necessary, based on the principles and the space and needs assessment.
4. To utilize electronic technology to inform the general public of community events, including such
initiatives as creating a Hall of Excellence.
5. To prepare a report for the Council of the District of Mission, based on direction by municipal staff,
in consultation with the Cultural Resources Commission.
The first two of the objectives are to be addressed in 2009 and early 2010 (or earlier). It is anticipated that
the process will be initiated by first conducting the needs assessment, followed by the establishment of the
necessary principles.
SCOPE OF WORK
In order to complete this work, the following tasks should be undertaken.
Space and Need Assessment
1. Meetings with District officials, including District councilors, senior staff and the Cultural Resources
Commission (3 separate meetings) to discuss the process, gather any related studies or reports,
and to determine the timeframe for the study. (Information regarding the District's
population/demographics will be important in this regard.)
It is understood that members of the Cultural Resources Commission have initiated the process of
identifying local facilities that could be used for cultural activities, and that this information will be
refined and made available to the consultants.
