The current sign Bylaw doesn't have the backing of common sense. We suggest that provided the client is ready to pay the fee associated with the type of marketing need, there is no reason to limit the applications allowed per year. This type of fee structure will in fact encourage the right type of businesses to have long term promotion and discourage sinage that might normally sit for two months, but should be present for one month or only a few weeks. Our company is prpared to work wih City Hall to provide sinage that meets the visual and design requirements of Abbotsford residents. We understand that Abbotsford wishes to present a clean professional appearance and we would adhere to the high standard of quality that would be expected of any marketing material that is in the publice eye. We are supportive of setting a new standard of appearance that has not previously been manfated by other cities. Ironically, different City organizations do employ the use of our boards and benefit from their high exposure. We are certain that there can be a synergy between the traffic that these boards drive and the need for a presentable marketing product. There haas been a tremendous amount of support from our current clientele to bring this motion forward to City Hall. We are respectfully asking that a better designed By-law be put in place that supports the interests of City Hall and the marketing needs of our community's merchants. This would indeed be a precedent setting move for other municipalities and would set a new standard for Reader Boards and their use in a community.

You do an amazing job in working with Community Support Workers, who will be on the front lines for the community each and every day dealing with mental health, homelessness and addiction issues. We are all part of the critical discussion that is now taking place. SMH would be most interested to bring SMH Day to UFV Mission Campus in the second or third week of October ( Chilliwack Campus is set for Oct. 7 and Abbotsford for the 8th). We would perform at lunch time for Students, Faculty and Staff and could also do a screening of Cracking Up in the Evening. Where would you propose having this event, and how many people would you expect to attend Let's try and figure out the logistics and feasibility of such an event. We would also be most interested in working with you throughout the school year to do SMH mini-performances and workshops for students and staff around de-stigmatizing mental illness and getting the conversation going. Have attached a proposed News Advisory for the First Annual Valley Comedy Festival at the Clarke Theatre in Mission, on August 21 and 22. It explains why we are creating it and who our partners and supporters are. We would be honoured to have the City of Mission be the Official Host Community for the Festival, and hope that the City might officially declare it SMH Day in Mission during the Festival. The Town of Sidney has graciously agreed to to both of these things for the First Annual Island Comedy Festival in Sidney a week prior to the Valley Event. Would you be kind enough to see if Mission City Council might agree to this I look forward to discussing all of this further with you at your earliest convenienceperhaps we might set up a meeting in the next 2 weeks.
