Subject: Cultural Infrastructure Study
Recommendation
1. That approval be given for the attached Scope of Work to conduct a Cultural Infrastructure Study;
and
2. That approval be granted to spend $15,550 plus GST for consulting services to conduct the
Cultural Infrastructure Study, with the funds to come from Council contingency.
Background
One of Council's five priority areas for 2009-2011 is Cultural Infrastructure. The goal of this priority area
is to provide for cultural infrastructure needs in Mission. Cultural infrastructure includes physical space
for cultural, senior and youth facilities.
The attached scope of work document has been produced with the goal of completing the first two
objectives of undertaking a space and needs assessment as well as establishing principles to guide the
provision of cultural services by the noted deadline of February 2010. The proposed scope of work also
includes some recommendations that would lead into the third objective of providing appropriate spaces.
As noted in Council's Priority Areas and Goals document, consulting support is required to complete this
work, namely a Cultural Infrastructure Study. The document includes a quote of $15,550 plus GST to
complete the work.
As this is unbudgeted work, the Director of Finance is recommending that Council contingency be utilized
as the funding source for these consulting services.
