Re: Letter of Support, Brownfield Renewal Funding Program
Application for Detailed Site Investigations
Former Meeker Cedar Products Sites, Home and Harbour, Mission B.C.
The above mill was closed in 2005 and, as a result of a fire in 2008, the structures were
demolished. Deloitte and Touche Inc were appointed Receivers oil July 21,2008 and
proceeded to have a Phase 1 Environmental Study done which indicated that there is a
moderate to high likelihood of significant contamination in soil and groundwater on the
Site. A Phase 2 report was recommended but not undertaken by the Receivers.
I am interested in acquiring the site and am with the full knowledge of the owner, in the
process of applying for a Provincial Government grant to assist paying for a portion of
the Phase 2 Environmental Report. A copy of the Program guide is included. Council
support increases the likelihood of Brownfield funding participation.
The site occupies an important intersection at the off-ramp of the Abbotsford-Mission
Bridge and Horne Avenue and has not been occupied for four years.
We anticipate making a Development Permit Application within the next 30 days on this
property. We request that you provide us with a letter of support for me to apply for funds
under this Brownfield Renewal Funding Program.
