cure, the faith <strong>of</strong> these blind<br />

men was strong enough<br />

to overleap the barrier <strong>of</strong> precedent and to argue<br />

that the power and goodness which had healed divers<br />

diseases might also restore their sight. And the<br />

greatness <strong>of</strong> their blessing was proportioned to the<br />

greatness <strong>of</strong> their faith.<br />

Notice, however, that even their faith was tested.<br />

<strong>The</strong> prayer they <strong>of</strong>fered in the roadway was apparently<br />

unheeded, but when <strong>Jesus</strong> entered the house<br />

these suppliants followed Him up, as He knew they<br />

would do.<br />

This gave greater quietude and deliberation<br />

to the miracle. It afforded opportunity for the<br />

earnestness <strong>of</strong> these men to be more fully revealed, and<br />

for a confession <strong>of</strong> faith to be made <strong>by</strong> them. And<br />

this would help the onlookers to understand the<br />

principle on which all divine blessings come. When<br />

the blind men came to Him, "<strong>Jesus</strong> said unto them,<br />

Believe ye that I am able to do this ' <strong>The</strong>y say<br />

unto Him, Yea, Lord.' <strong>The</strong>n touched He their eyes,<br />

saying, 'According to your faith be it unto you,' and<br />

their eyes were opened."<br />

I do not intend to dwell on that cure, nor on the<br />

obvious analogy between blindness physical and<br />

blindness spiritual, but simply to elucidate the connection<br />

between man's faith and God's gifts, which it<br />

may be for our spiritual pr<strong>of</strong>it to examine and apply<br />

to our own condition and circumstances.<br />

Faith is set forth here as the link between human<br />

need and divine fulness. It is the channel along<br />

which the higher blessing comes, and but for which it<br />

does not reach us. <strong>The</strong> source is inexhaustible, and<br />

can enrich us all beyond measure. News has lately<br />

come from Egypt to the effect that scarcity is feared,
