<strong>miracles</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Gospel from all others, and give them<br />

a place <strong>by</strong> themselves.<br />

" This beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>miracles</strong><br />

did <strong>Jesus</strong> at Cana <strong>of</strong> Galilee, and manifested His<br />

glory : and His disciples believed on Him." What<br />

led them to faith hinders ours. Does not this show<br />

that we have missed something in these stories which<br />

is vital And does it not show that we need the<br />

help <strong>of</strong> God's spirit, in order that we may see them<br />

in their meaning and beauty<br />

If we are not brought<br />

to believe in the Son <strong>by</strong> these beautiful works, which<br />

seem so " monstrous " to some <strong>of</strong> us, but were<br />

sweetly natural to Him, is it not an indication that<br />

our standpoint is somehow wrong—that we are still<br />

outside the happy circle in which those move who<br />

are possessed <strong>of</strong> faith as well as reason, and grand<br />

humility as well as a hunger for " truth as it is in<br />

<strong>Jesus</strong> " " Lord, I believe\ help Thou mine unbelief
