health and healing. In Him we live and move and
have our being, and this is the sphere within which
man must act as a moral and responsible being. Let
the jar and the shock of some great wrong come to
derange and disorganise a man's moral environment,
let there be recoil from the Church, the discipleship,
and the forms of religion. If the man could only
know it he would find the divine love insphering his
life afresh and creating new conditions of responsibility.
When Peter's blow had been struck, if the
history had suddenly stopped, we could have
excused Malchus for wrong views of Christ and a
policy of continued persecution ; but the miracle
brought this slave under a new obligation to his
Healer, and put him in a changed position towards
Jesus
