places, He is more generous and responsive than we<br />

deserve or expect. To quote a familiar phrase :<br />

" He<br />

is able to do exceeding abundantly for us above all<br />

that we ask or think." <strong>The</strong>refore, let us once more<br />

say to our soul, " Hope thou in God, for I shall yet<br />

praise Him, for the help <strong>of</strong> His countenance."<br />

" According<br />

to your faith," says the Lord, " be it unto<br />

you."<br />

I.<br />

Let us see how true this text is, first in the<br />

reception <strong>of</strong> blessings, and second in our<br />

diffusion <strong>of</strong> the blessings.<br />

It has been well said that "the trust with which we<br />

lean upon the bruised reeds <strong>of</strong> human nature is the<br />

same as that with which we lean upon the iron pillar<br />

<strong>of</strong> a Saviour's aid." We may therefore find an<br />

example <strong>of</strong> the truth we are considering in human<br />

relationships, as well as in those that are divine.<br />

(i) Think, for example, <strong>of</strong> the blessings which come<br />

to us tJirough our daily labour.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y are dependent on our faith, and to a great<br />

months <strong>of</strong> spending and only weeks <strong>of</strong> reaping, yet<br />

the sane man trusts the laws <strong>of</strong> nature, in other words,<br />

depends on the steadfast government <strong>of</strong> God, and he
