indifference, and then our last state would be worse
than our first. Therefore, let this be our prayer :
" As Thou hast touched our ears, and taught
Our tongues to speak Thy praises plain,
Quell Thou each thankless, Godless thought
That would make fast our bonds again.
" From worldly strife, from mirth unblest,
Drowning Thy music in the breast,
From foul reproach, from thralling fears,
Preserve, good Lord, thy servants' ears.
" From idle words, that restless throng
And haunt our hearts when we would pray,

Willing or loth, Thy trump shall hear,

If this prayer be answered, we, like
this poor man,
shall become living witnesses to Christ's power. No
trumpet was needed to blare abroad his cure. He
quietly went back home, where people saw him and
heard him, and said to each other in wonder, " This
is the man whom Jesus changed, and he is become a
new man."
