and every lot. Its hand was laid on every key <strong>of</strong><br />

the great manifold human organ, and every touch<br />

evoked some music.<br />

We see Him among children<br />

and young men and<br />

the aged. He is <strong>of</strong>ten with the poor and not seldom<br />

with the rich. He feasts with Pharisees and rulers,<br />

and just as readily with publicans and sinners. We<br />

hear <strong>of</strong> Him constantly among the sick, crippled, and<br />

maimed, and He does not forget to feed the hungry.<br />

He discourses with young men about their ambitions,<br />

and with broken-down men about their despairs. He<br />

debates with the learned, and talks with the ignorant<br />

woman <strong>by</strong> the well. We see Him once in a king's<br />

court, and we see Him <strong>of</strong>ten with beggars. He has<br />

to do with merchants driving their bargains, with<br />

fishermen at their perilous toil, with ploughmen and<br />

sowers working in the field, with women as they<br />

sweep the house and prepare the meals. We meet<br />

Him in synagogue and temple, in palace and cottage,<br />

in street procession and lonely retreat.<br />

We see Him<br />

glorified as a King, adored as God, scourged as a<br />

prisoner, condemned and crucified as a criminal.<br />

What a strange panorama it is ! All the phases<br />

and shapes <strong>of</strong> human life are in that story. It seems<br />

as if He had purposely brought Himself into contact<br />

with every human experience and relationship that<br />

He might show His interest and sympathy with<br />

them all, that He might bring His healing and<br />

sanctifying power to bear upon them all, and prove<br />

that His mission was to redeem and glorify them<br />

all. And every line <strong>of</strong> His ministry bears witness<br />

that there is nothing in our lives, and nothing<br />

which affects man, that is outside the range <strong>of</strong>
