things which we once saw not at all. And He has<br />

made us see a hundred other things with wider vision<br />

and in clearer light. He has shown us what we were<br />

once quite blind<br />

to—His own beauty, His all-attractive<br />

loveliness, the beauty <strong>of</strong> His words, the beauty <strong>of</strong><br />

His sorrows, the beauty <strong>of</strong> His cross and forgiving love.<br />

He has shown us ourselves as we never knew ourselves<br />

before. He has made us see all the crooked,<br />

dark, petty, mean, and miserable things in ourselves<br />

which we used to pass <strong>by</strong> unconcerned, and He has<br />

made us see also our larger capabilities, our better<br />

and nobler selves, our immortal hopes and longings,<br />

our immeasurable and eternal possibilities. He has<br />

opened our eyes to the real meaning <strong>of</strong> life,<br />

given us<br />

a larger conception <strong>of</strong> its responsibilities and duties,<br />

its privileges and obligations. He has filled us with<br />

thoughts and emotions which expand the whole<br />

nature, and made it a path which is lighted up all the<br />

way with visions <strong>of</strong> nobler things. He has opened<br />

our eyes to see the faces <strong>of</strong> our fellow-men as the<br />

faces <strong>of</strong> God's children, and our own brothers.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y<br />

are all in a measure made new to us, no longer to<br />

be envied, competed with, neglected, forgotten,<br />

despised, and pushed aside ;<br />

prayed for, helped and saved.<br />

but loved, pitied, forgiven,<br />

He has wrought one<br />

great miracle in all <strong>of</strong> us that we love Him. Yes, I<br />

call that a miracle. It is nothing less. To love a<br />

Being whom we have never seen, whose voice has not<br />

been heard upon the earth for eighteen hundred years<br />

and more. To love Him as a present living one, as a<br />

friend, brother, comforter ; to love Him better than<br />

friend or brother, with a deep, honest, abiding love,<br />

stronger than death, that is a wonderful thing. It is
