Dear Dick:
Great news-for me at least. The family of my Charles W. Grayson has been identified.
He was the son of Daniel and Cathrine Grayson of Dardanelle on the Arkansas River
in Yell bunty, Arkansas which is 35-40 from where my great grandfather, Jessee, lived,
The ider1tificati.n would have cotne earlier exccat for the condition of thti census
microfilm. Finally, I was able to gain access to tile paper documents and spotted the
family immediately. Transcripts of the 1856 and 1560 census records are enclosed. In
1840 the family wss in Lafayette Cbunty, Mississippi, Charles' brothers and a sister
are identified on the 1550 and lGi32 records. According to the 1840 record there was
probably an older brother r:ho was not at home in 1650. In 1540 there were other neribers
of the household who appeared to be possibly brothers to mniel and perhaps hi-s mother
or nother-in-law, A .Toel Grayson was a neighbor. Don't kilo\ who he is. I was going to
send a transcript of the 1840 record but decided to recheck one item that doesn't loolc
correct. Will send a cop7 thep.
, I
I
I
I think that there is a strong possibility that Daniel arid my Jessee were brothers and
that both were sons of your Jessee, However-, the Virgi-nia birth of Daniel raises a
question. P,ly search will continue.
Maps with Grayson place names identified were sent. At least some of the places undoubtedly
had becd previously identified. Please disregard an: duplicates. I was
reluctant to send Lake Greeson becausc of the spelling but dccided to let you decide.
if it should be included. Incidentally, has Grayson, Saskatchet~an, Canada been indentified
If not, I will send a map. Place names have been of interest to me for years,
My check for tk, last news letter is enclosed. I'n enjoying the news letter very much.
It is doubtful if one could ever gather so much data on the family by one's self.
I have loaated a b~ok on the battles of the Pmcrican Kevolutton wliich goes into great
detail. Col. Irlilliam's role is detailed to a greater extend than I have previouuly cncountered.
@pies will be sent when I have time to find the right copier fcr t h job. ~
Of course I am rcfering to Col. Wi l I iar,~ Grayscn.
W i l l close for xlow.
Best wishes,
Howard
