Of these four <strong>Grayson</strong>s, the following is considered to<br />

be factual:<br />

I, Anne Gravson ---- (sometimes referred ta as Mary).<br />

Elarried first John Quax-les on October 3, 1722, in Spotsylvania<br />

County, Virginia, and secondly Thomas ~iarri'son, circa 1731, in<br />

&'aquier County, Virginia, Anne <strong>Grayson</strong> died testate in that<br />

county in 1774.<br />

11. -- Benjcmin --.-- Crayson. -- As it is reliably stated by<br />

Mr. George H. S. King (Rzgister of First Parnilies of Virgi11i.a)<br />

tlrat Benjamin <strong>Grayson</strong> married Susanna Monroe, daughter of Andrew<br />

Monroe, (died testatzd 1714) in Westrcoreland County, Virginia.<br />

Shc was successively thc widow of Charles Tyler (died Stratford<br />

County, Viryinia in 1725) and of Will.iam Lendt (died Prince<br />

William County, Virginia 1732-33). Susanna Monroe died in<br />

November, 1752. She was the mother of William <strong>Grayson</strong>, a U.S.<br />

Senator. Mr. King writes that the family seat of the <strong>Grayson</strong><br />

family was a little below Fredericksburg on the Rappahannock<br />

and is shown on Lord Fairfax's map of the Northern Neck, 1737.<br />

Senator William <strong>Grayson</strong> received a 6,666 acre military grant of<br />

land in Hopkins County, Rentucky, for his services as a colonel<br />

in the Revolutionary War. This land was later conveyed by several<br />

deeds of record to his heirs. Colonel <strong>Grayson</strong> also received<br />

acreage by military grants in Fayette County, ~irginia and it<br />

is considered that he had 90,000 acres of other grants in Kentucky.<br />

Other sons of Benjamin and Susanna <strong>Grayson</strong> were:<br />

i, John <strong>Grayson</strong><br />

ii. Benjamin <strong>Grayson</strong>, Jr. -- died a prosperous citizen<br />

in Prince ~illiam County, Virginia in 1757.<br />

iii. Spence <strong>Grayson</strong><br />

iv, William <strong>Grayson</strong>
