birth year of Benjamin Grayson, sr., was. semetimo between
1727 and 1755. This; is calculated;.as fellowsr In 1787 he was
listed as: under age 60 (1787-60=1727) and ih 1800 he was
age 45 (1800~4j=1755) 0
A William Grayson first appeared in Wilkcs county in\-the 1800 census
as 1 male 26-45, 3 males under 10,. 2 females under lo,, and- 1
fernale. 16-26*. In the 1810 census, William Grayson ~vas age 26-49,
and in the 1820 census- ef Wilkes county, Willlam was over 45;
William Grayson was theref ore born sometime fron 1755-1 775*.
(Under 45 in 1800; 1800-45~1755; over 45 in 1820s 1820-45=1775.)
Infcrencest Ben jamin Grayson, sr. entered landl- in Wilkos cowty
.the aame year that Joseph Grayson, wha was probably his brother,
enterad land in Burke county. Joseph Grayson bccamc the patriarch
of the Rutherford county Graysons.
BenJnmih Grayson, sr., had 5 sons and 2 daughters, The sonswere
Jeb, Joseph, Jesse, and Eknjamin, jx., and one other, The namasof
the daughters are uarkno~m. The 5th son wws apparently at home
in.1800 at the time when a William Graysan appeared with his o m
family in the Wilkes census. The 5th san, In 1800 was aged 16-26,
The 5th son was thus born 177j3-1784, This age in compatible with
the known birth of Wren Graysan, sr,, born 1712, Wren Grayson is
the probable 5th sen of Elenjamin Grayson, srL, thereforeo
William Grayson of Wilkes in 1800, therefore is not a son of Benjamin,
but might have been a brother. The "new Graysons!', Juhn,,
bnjarnin+.and Joseph, in 1810 and 1820, were sons ef Willi&m GraysQno
