July 8, 1978 907 Picardy Lufkin, Texas Dear Dr. Grayson, Another newsy letter has arrived. I don't see how you are able to obtain such a wide range of material for these newsletters. May I please make an addition to the chart on Benjamin Franklin ( Grayson on pago 189 Before I do so let me explain from whom I acquired this data and how. In the spring of 1963 we were living about 40 miles north of Charlottesvi.lle, Virginia and my husband was taking part of his chaplain's training in the University I Hospital there. One day he came across a patint who told him that her maiden name was Grayson. She said that she had a lot of material on the Grayson family and would be happy to loan it to me. 1 Her husband brought it 1 day and my husband brought it home to me. After making a copy of everythling she had, I returned her material. She lived a short piece from us across the mountain, and by that [ time was home from the hospital. I never doubted the authencity of the material I received from her until I heard from Mrs. P:ulfeck several years later. It was only then that I learncd that the William Grayson I had listed as married to Eleanor Sanfsrd was also ( supposedly married to Ann Smith. There is no doubt that It is the same Ylil-liam Grayson. It is improbable that there were 2 William Graysons, each born in 1732, and died in 1829, and each serving in ( the American Revolution. I have wondered if. this \7illiam Grayson had 2 separate famil-ies. It has happened before. If anyone can give an answer to this puzzle, please let me know. Now back to my addi.ti-on to the chart on page 189. The chart I received from Mrs. White (lady I mentioned above) was exactly like the 1 on pg. 187 except for 1 thing. Benjamin Franklin married a ( b*h *lril@. His 4th wife was Eh&. Mary E. Holtzrnan (Nary Ellen Miley) whom.,ke married October 28. 1873. . - She died June 21. 1921. Their children were Annie P,hodesV Grayson, Irene Tabitha Grayson, 2nd HA1i'T1F: C1,EVTJAND GRAYSON. Annie Rhodes Graysalz married a Mr. Iauck I and her son owned (1463) the newspaper in Luray. Virginia. HATTIE CLWEIJAN13 GRAYSON ~narried Hubert White. It was Mrs. VhiLe who gave me so much of my material on the Grays011 background. She ) also lived in Luray, Virginia - 108 High Street. She was an elZcrly lady in 1963. It was her nephew, newspaper editor in Luray, who had done all the research on the Gra-yson family. I doubt that Mrs. White is still living, but her nephew, Mr. Lauck might be. ( I do not know his first name or the name of the paper. - - Lura3 - is a small town and would only have 1 newspaper, I Thanks for printing the missing page from last month. I hope nobody gets the wrong impression from an item on that page (pg. 173). It says "John Graysan, Jr. and his wife Sarah (born Sarah Carter, htarch 1792 'Norrallt s, p. 19) conveved I ........It. She was born 2 January 3.776 and married John 5; i ~.",/jill,Jr. 23 October 1792 in Montgomery Co., Virginia. They were my great-great grandparents. I have a correction to make on an item on the bottom of page I 185, This deals with an article which appeared in Tyler's Quarterly and listed the probable children of John Grayson who died 1735/6 intestate in Spotsylvania Co., Virginia. It lists John Grayson, Jr. as marrying Barbara Ir was HOT this John Grayson whose wife was named Barbara* The John Grayson whose children these probably were
