December Fincastle County dissolved by Virginia legislation. I -
31, 1776 - Kentucky County, Virginia was now the western most
portion of the original Fincastle County (all of
what is now the state of Kentucky); the eastern
most portion of Fincastle was divided into
Washington and hiontgomery Counties.
May 1780 - Kentucky County, Virginia divided into three
parts - Jefferson, -- Fayette and Lincoln. So thus
for a time the name Kentucky passed out of history.
1784 - Nelson County formed from part of Jefferson.
May 1, - Bourbon County created from Fayette. I

1785 - Mercer County and Madison County formed from
part of Lincoln.

- Mason County created from portion of Bourbon.

1788 Woodford County created from part of Fayette.
- This was the last of nine counties of Kentucky
established by State of Virginia.
1789 - Cession by Virginia to the District - of Kentucky.
February - Cession ratified by Congress.
