December Fincastle County dissolved by Virginia legislation. I -<br />

31, 1776 - Kentucky County, Virginia was now the western most<br />

portion of the original Fincastle County (all of<br />

what is now the state of Kentucky); the eastern<br />

most portion of Fincastle was divided into<br />

Washington and hiontgomery Counties.<br />

May 1780 - Kentucky County, Virginia divided into three<br />

parts - Jefferson, -- Fayette and Lincoln. So thus<br />

for a time the name Kentucky passed out of history.<br />

1784 - Nelson County formed from part of Jefferson.<br />

May 1, - Bourbon County created from Fayette. I<br />

1785<br />

1785 - Mercer County and Madison County formed from<br />

part of Lincoln.<br />

May 1,<br />

1788<br />

- Mason County created from portion of Bourbon.<br />

1788 Woodford County created from part of Fayette.<br />

- This was the last of nine counties of Kentucky<br />

established by State of Virginia.<br />

1789 - Cession by Virginia to the District - of Kentucky.<br />

February - Cession ratified by Congress.<br />
